Voltage Regulator
« on: June 09, 2011, 04:34:20 PM »

OK, I'll admit I'm not a wrenchhead, nor do I play one on television, but I have a friend
who's bike died on the road. He towed it to his stealer, and they said the voltage regulator
died, $400+ to repair it!!!!! Is that the norm, when the list price for the part is $198.00?
The dealer I go to always knocks off 10% on all parts, and sometimes labor, but $400!

There are two nuts to remove and replace plus two connectors , the last one I had go bad under warranty they replaced in the parking lot took about 15 min. I think Your assesment is correct, they had your buddy over a barrell and took advantage of him.

Unless the $400 included the tow and a few hours of diagnostic work - they took advantage of your friend...   :(

Tazmun, I had one replaced on my Evo a few years back and it was about $110.00 plus 1/2 hour labor. CAHDBIKER

If you assume they charged MSRP for the part ($198), that means more than $200 for labor, tax, shop supplies, and other miscellaneous BS these places use to pump up the bill.  I certainly hope for that price they also detailed the bike and topped off the fuel tank at least.

Without full details of what they actually did, we are of course just speculating.  It's a fun pastime, but ultimately not very useful.  Let us know exactly what they supposedly did, how much for parts, how much for labor, how much for miscellaneous BS.  Maybe they used some really trick chrome zip ties to secure the wiring or something.

Those zip ties in chrome are $2.00 each.   Can that be it? :nixweiss:
