PIAA Spotlight Bulbs???
« on: May 16, 2006, 05:50:35 PM »

Has anyone replaced the bulbs in the spots on the CUSE with PIAA bulbs???  Is it an H3 and does the connector work???  I installed the HID headlight and man, what a difference.  I want to change the spots to a whiter light too.  Thanks.

Yeah - once you get past the silicone sealed rubber bootie thing - it's an H3

I upgraded mine to the more usual (in Europe anyways) 55 watt lamps and it helps some.

I guess the PIAA (not to be confused with PITA...) lamps will just drop in.

The connectors are standard Lucar? (spade/blade) type - nothing clever there

Good Luck

Cheers

Uhh Dave they might be different for '06 or for US bikes, mine were 811's not H3's.  I changed em to 816's, changing them from 27W to 55W....

Hey FR8TRN-

I just pulled the bulb and its actually an 881.  I'm not finding the 816 online anywhere, but I am finding the 881 in Super White, Extreme White, etc.  They are all 27 watt draw, but some are up to 100 watt output... I'm not sure that 100 watt output is a real number, I think its just a "seems like" number.  Do you know what the "K" rating that you got was?... and do you remember where you got them?  I'd like to go up to 55 watt if I can.  Thanks-

Uhh, my bad, make that a 886 then....too lazy to walk out to the geerage and look, pulled it off the top of my head, things are gettin thin up there I guess.

They were 55W bulbs, and your right not to believe that 100W looks like number, it's ficticious at best.  Picked em up at a local auto parts store....like $5 (or so) each....

FR8TRN,
Didn't you also change the power supply of the spots?  Did you move them to the bluewire/black wire connector that's part way up the headlight loom?

I have them running off the circuit in place for the fender tip lamp....don't remember the colors off hand.....but it's a 15amp fused circuit with almost nothing on it.

Did anyone ever find out where to order/get the Piaa 881 bulbs at?  I looked around and couldn't find any.  I found some that looked similar but they were HB's.

[smiley=oops.gif] - Sorry, I rushed in, forgetting possible changes for '06 (and the fact that HDI are different too)

So that's a double  [smiley=oops.gif] [smiley=oops.gif]

Hmmm

Found the bulbs online at www.luminicsbulbs.com ... I got the 881 Hyper White.  Price was $24.95 w/ free 3 day shipping and they give you a 1 year warranty.  I called Luminics on the phone to place the order- (always hate doing anything online w/ a credit card.  Not that it's any more secure rattling it off to some cust service rep, but it makes me feel better anyway.)  I found the 881 bulbs on several different sites, but none made by PIAA, Raybrig or Polarg.  I'm not sure why this bulb is so difficult as it's used in quite a few cars too.
