Louvers in lowers
« on: June 12, 2011, 05:23:36 PM »

As most of us who ride in hot muggy weather are always looking to make our bikes cooler I was wondering if anyone has removed the louvers in the lowers and if so does it help? I know it will look weird at first but it may start a trend.

I have not removed them but somewhere on a post on this forum I read that someone did and it helped.

It's not that hard to do, why not go ahead and remove them and then report your findings to the rest of the members?

I removed the lowers and it is so much cooler.  Of course you have to like the look.  After I removed them I decided right then,  these will not go back on this bike.  Looks better I think, and like I said.  You will be a lot cooler,  engine to.

WOW Jimmy you went all the way, I just took out the vents but kept the lower, because I have speakers in them. I didn't get a change to ride it yet. I just did it yesterday; I will give the results.

I like the look of that bike without the lowers.  Makes a big difference when you live in a warm climate.   I live in Florida and I keep them off always. I was also told it helps the motor keep cooler also. I have no heat issues at all with my motor.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hey Stu, if you decide that you're not ever gonna use those B&B lowers again and wanna get 'em out of the attic, give me 1st chance at 'em, 'cause I broke mine into small pieces and need a replacement.  spyder

I took mine off a month or so ago. I really like the look too but since I ride all year I know they will go back on in the fall, or if I trade before then but that's another story.

If I'm not mistaken, you FLH guys have a quick release option available from the dealer that makes it even easier.  Doc

I removed the louvers on the lowers on my 07 CVO Ultra to reduce the heat on the engine.  It made around a 5-10 degree reduction in my oil temps but the back of my legs and calves still get too hot for my liking.   I personally don't think it gives the rear cylinder any more air.  I haven't removed the lowers entirely because I want to keep the bugs and rocks off my shins!
