How long to change bars?
« on: June 12, 2011, 06:55:18 PM »

Got my 10" Monkey Bars in Friday and took to dealer to have them install them. I am not doing it and don't no a local Indy. So they said 4.5 hrs labor to install without changing wires or cables. 8 hrs. if wire and cable change is needed. $75.00 per hour. Does this sound about right?

yes, it's a full day job. Make sure you have them replace the rubber stock bushings with poly ones if you have any rise to the bars, otherwise they'll feel sloppy.

I just ordered the same bars, I was told the hydraulic clutch and brake hose have to be changed for longer ones. I have a 6 week wait on mine, so if you could do a follow up on your install that would be great! :2vrolijk_21: oh and that's a pretty average dealer rate, :-\

There is no question, your lines will need to be replaced. I just did WO575's (10") and the lines just barely made it.

There is a question if the lines and wires need to be replaced.  I put 10" PYO Monkey Bars on my 2010 SESG in my garage and DID NOT need to change any wires or lines.  Everything works wonderfully.

As to the question on this post regarding labor.  It took me a full day to replace my bars.  Three hours just to feed wires on the throttle side of the bar.  Pin connectors are very tedious work taking apart and putting back together and takes time.

So that is weird, did your original post say 10" bars? I put 10" bars on my bike with stock cable so I do not know why I would say you would have to change cables. I would say anything taller than 10" and you would have to change the cables.

I took my bike to the dealer to do this. They did not change any cables but did change some wires.

I just installed the 12 inch Yaffe monkey bars. It took about 7 hours. I had to change both lines, clutch and brake. The 10 inch should work fine with the stock lines. I love the new bars.

hate to tell you this but the 10 in, are gonna place your hands right in front of the mirrors. we had a couple people here in detroit buy 10,s and the are dissapointed. the are mainly for baggers without fairing mirrors.

I have 14 inch Yaffe MBB on my SG and my arms still partially cover the mirrors, but not bad enough to replace the fairing mirrors. If you only have 10 inch bars you can't see with the fairing mirrors but it wouldn't look bad to put mirrors on the handle bars and cover the fairing holes with Yaffe's covers they make for the fairing mirror holes.
