Filling 6 Gal. Gas Tank
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:43:21 PM »

Anyone have trouble filling your gas tank on the 6 gal tanks. I can never get it completely filled and it splashes gas all over tank. Never had trouble with my 07 SEUC.

Didn't spill a drop - and no, I didn't have to push the bike in to the station.  :orange:

I have the same problem with mine. I found one pump that allowed me to control the flow at a low enough rate to fill and not splash all over the tank.

Yes, Harley once again did a bang up job "engineering" a change to the bikes.  And just like with all their other f - ups, they found a way to turn it into a profit maker for them.  See attachment, which is their answer to the problem.

In California we have those stupid rubber boots on our nozzles. you have to pull them back in order to put fuel in the tank.  F***en EPA

I thought it was just me...my '06 filled quickly and easily, but the 2011 takes forfrigginever.  I don't know that I've ever really gotten it completely full.

That's why they call it the 6 gallon tank. One gallon is on the ground before its filled.

Have one - used it like a dozen times.  Not worth taking out of the bag.

Yeah, I have difficulty with the new 'improved' design on my '11 ruse.  Like others have said - never any problem on my '99, '06 or '07, but this thing is a royal pita.  I have found that if I initially put the nozzle as far down into the tank as it will go and pump really slow it doesn't spit back.  When it reaches the point that the auto shutoff cuts the fuel then I move the nozzle up in the tank and continue filling.  This seems to work the best of all the techniques I have tried.

Buddies say they fill their's while in the saddle with the bike upright with no problem.  But heck I'd probably wind up with a crotch full of gas, lol.  So I am not trying that!

You and spada84 are the proof; Harley can't engineer a proper fuel tank and filler pipe system, nor can they come up with a useable solution.  The only thing they seem to be able to do consistently well is to transfer money from the customer's pockets to theirs.  At that, they are the acknowledged experts.

I fill my bike from the saddle with out problems.
Guess the bike is strait up and that helps
I stuff it right up to the neck, 120 miles to work and back so I like extra in the tank.
