SE 251 vs Zippers TC575
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:59:07 PM »

Hey guys and gals... I am looking for your advice on replacing my stock 253 cams on my 103...  So far, only air cleaner, exhaust and RT has been done...  I like the way it runs today, but the question is always there.  At the 40K service I'm replacing the spring cam tensioners with the HD hyd conversion.  Now seems like a good time to change the cams...

I look forward to your answer and advice...  Hwyfever...

The CVO 103 heads have low compression, with out raising the compression the SE 251 is not an option. The RS 575 is considered a "Bolt In" cam for the CVO 103 which will be better suited.

the 251 comes in a bit later and requires 10.3 to one or great to work decently.   (Note the Original CVO Heads had .630 spring lift so it was no issue which is why it was a bolt in cam for those motors)   They are about equally noisey as far as valve train noise.   2 thumbs up for the 575

Placed my order with Zippers yesterday. They were very helpful on the phone. Look forward to install next week. Thanks for the advice.

Mileage with the 575's and a Thundermax is 38-40 with a trailer with Porthole following

His bike has 575's with a race tuner was 33-35.....looks like 38 with a RP

Hi guys.  I finally got the 575 cams, hyd cam plate, lifters and bearings installed...   For those interested in cam tension shoe wear, it was not too bad after 37K... It looked like I might get another 20K miles or so...  Better safe than sorry I guess...  The good news - the power difference with the 575 cams is notable.  My seat of the pants dyno puts the improvement right in the 2K to 4k range - right where it is advertised and most needed for my style of riding.  These cams do make noise compared to stock.  It was immediately noticeable and louder than anything I've used in the past.  Fortunately, I ride with ear plugs and the stereo blasting, so this is not a problem for me...   Money on the cams was well spent IMHO.
