Garage door opener stop working? - A FIX
« on: May 17, 2006, 07:50:47 PM »

This is some information I wanted to pass on...

One day last week my garage door opener on my CUSE stopped working... GREAT!! I thought the thing had $h*t the bed & I was pi$$ed. >:( >:(

While thinking about what a hassle this was going to be to fix, I remembered that we had a 3 hour power outage recently. So on a hunch I followed the procedure in the manual for programming the opener.

Voila!! Works like a charm again!!  Life is good. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] ;)

Mine stopped working also, without any known power outage though. And I too thought "Great" a week without the bike over this thing. Then I thought just for fun I decided to re-teach the signal, and Bingo been working fine since then.

I have tried and tried to get mine working.  Stealer said the transmitter in the cycle is all good.  I have hooked it to the "push button" by the door to get in the house and I have hooked it directly to the head unit. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Before I get too excited does anyone have theirs working with a Genie?  If so I will go back to the drawing board.

I have installed 2 new Lift Master brand opener's for a couple guys who had nothing but problems with their Genies. They can open now from a few houses away, doors opening by the time they hit the driveway. I'm in the back of a court, and as soon as I hit the corner, my door is on the way up. 'Back to the drawing board' might be cheaper to just get a new Lift Master, They seem to be most compatible with the HD systems.

btw, I install a couple dozen garage doors and openers a year.

J.J.,

Mine works with a 10 year old (non-rolling code) 1/2 hp screw drive Genie, but I've noticed that the range varies depending on atmospheric conditions, full moon, whatever.  I'm planning to extend the antenna to the outside of the garage door to see if that helps.

I got one of the rolling code Genie's and mine works fine with no trouble so far in 7 months of use..

I'm plugged in at the head unit.

Tank,
Where do you have the receiver in the garage?  Is it close to the door or up in the front of the garage?

OK,
Now that you asked,  I went on vacation to Rat World in Florida last October,  when I left,  I figured that I'd bolt the garage door closed (just in case someone tried to get in).  The first thing you have to remember to do upon arriving home is to unbolt thr freakin door.  Make a long story short,  I'm not that smart.  Hit the button,  the damn thing exploded........so I bought a Genie "Accelerator",  it raises the door twice as fast as the old one (which is good),  but I've had several problems making the stupid thing work (both with the HD opener and the remotes).  A word to the wise.....don't buy a genie.....

I hear ya Beags,

I am only having issues with the HD, I have two GMC's with Homelink and they work just fine.  One other note about a Genie my last door was Sercurity+ and I had an outside key pad thought I could just program it for the new Genie WRONG had to buy there outdoor key pad.  Last Genie that will open any of my door. >:(

JJ,
I agree.  I'm going back to Rat World in October (with the whole family).....I may explode the stupid thing on purpose just to get rid of it.........They used to be the best....What the hell happened???

First go round I had a bad wall unit. Replaced it and had my young son program it and all's good.

I installed it at the Genie Head unit in the middle of my garage ceiling.

TANK.

You need to separate the H-D receiver from the door opener receiver by at least 10 feet.  There was something in the instructions that mentioned that, but I can't quote it because I don't have them with me at the moment.  I wound up installing a new outlet in the ceiling about 15 feet from the door opener, works OK.
