2006 Vs 2011
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:35:01 PM »

Thinking of trading up from my 2006 to a new 2011, is there a big difference ? I am very happy with the 2006 but hear a lot of good things about the new frame and I presume the 110 is better than my 103.
Any advise would be great.

The new frame implemented in '09 is reason enough to upgrade. I had a 2008 Electra Glide (same frame as yours) and there is a big difference between the feel and handling. Plus, the new larger rear tire is extremely durable. Two of my riding buddies got 17k+ miles before replacing.  :o

Regarding the 110 inch motor...just expect to replace the exhaust. The engine puts out lots of heat...especially on the right side.

There are so many improvements to mention but here are a few that I liked a lot over my 07 110:

Let's try this again:

1.     The frame is a great improvement.  Handles better, much better in the curves.  Will handle an additional 200 pounds of weight, which leads to the next advantage.

2.     The new tires area great improvement.  Last longer, handle better, much better on highway grooves, allow more weight.  Plus they are larger.  On the glide they are on 18's and look great.

3.      ABS enough said.  Don't know how nice it is until you need it.

4.      The 110 is now a reliable engine (my 07 was rebuilt two time in 20,000) but hot damned hot.  I put Fullsac Ceramic headers, Fullsac 1.75  baffles and the PowerVision from Dynojet (although I think the Mastertune TTS from Fullsac is just as good and Steve is great).

5.      The Hammock seat is an excellent seat.

6.       XM radio Yeah baby reception everywhere.

7.       Built in GPS for the Garmin 660.  The 660 is very nice.

8.       Better stereo, especially on the Glides.  Just another pitch.

9.       Brembo brakes are better, much better.

10.      Better tranny overall.

There are others but these are worth it in my opinion.  I traded my 07 for the 09 on the ABS and frame alone.

Hope this helps.

X2 Agree with Diamondback! You won't believe the improvement/difference from an 06 to an 2009-2011. ABS has saved my bacon three times already! :2vrolijk_21:

I second every word of what Diamondback wrote - except about the seat. But maybe they got them durable for the 2011 ...

6 gallon tank also.  I'm getting closer to trading my 07.

Congratulations on the new ride. Shopping for an upgrade myself from the '07 model. The new frame is everything they say it is, BIG difference in handling and felt vibration.
