2011 FLHX SE2 CVO Speakers & Rain??
« on: June 22, 2011, 11:07:58 AM »

Fellow Owners,

Will rain affect the speakers?? Still waiting to pick min up but as I see heavy rainstorms move in and out I'm curious how will the FLHX SE2 CVO speakers hold up in the rain? One the move in the rain? Parked in the rain? washing with low pressure or just a bucket and sponge?

Has never been an issue from pouring rain or the hose during the weekly bike wash.  :2vrolijk_21:

X2--but I still would not hose them off directly. Getting them wet is not a problem, but don't pressure wash em :huepfenlol2:

I was going to suggest that you post your question on the SESG/SESG2 forum because of the speakers in the vented lowers being unique to the SESG2, and the likelihood that you'd get more views in that forum, but I see that you did initially post on that forum and it was moved here.

FWIW, I have the 2011 CVO speaker boxes in the vented lowers of my '04 EG and the speakers have gotten very wet (i.e. drenched) in heavy rains while parked w/o any ill effects so far.  When the bike gets washed, I don't spray water at the speakers in the fairing or lowers.

Thus far, I haven't heard of any speaker failures in the fairing or fairing lowers.

Similar to the marine grade speakers in boats.......that definately get wet.  I think in the case of our bikes, they're going to get much wetter if you're riding in a driving rain at 70 mph (I've been stuck in it when travelling) for hours.  Still has never been a problem.....but don't think I'd put soapy water directly on the speaker grill cover.

But like others have posted, I'd still not spray my hose directly in the face of the speakers.....just common sense for some. :nixweiss:

By the way, I play the stereo the full time I'm washing the bikes.  For the music and for what ever little bit of help the sound pushing out will minamize the water that does go in.  I also have the Hog Pod tweeters up on the top of the fairing on both bikes and those speaker grills have much larger holes than the stock OEM speaker grills and they've never been affected either.  They've been on my wife's bike for over two years now......that's a lot of bike washes and rain! :2vrolijk_21:  But it's a fair question from somebody that doesn't have our experience with baggers and just doesn't know.
