Lift table use question
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:48:51 PM »

I got a good deal on a used direct lift table,it is the drop tail model, it came with the Blackjack under frame jack, it lifts the rear section of bike for servicing the rear wheel. The question is .....how do you use table and jack to raise front wheel for cleaning and or servicing?

I place the scissor jack as far forward on the frame as i can. I have to put the kickstand down.  I lift the front a ways then release the front tire clamp and raise front tire off the table. No problem :bananarock:

I've got two frame scissors jacks... Raises the bike straight up...front and rear.  A second scissor jack is worth the cost - huge time saver - plus is stable and simple... :2vrolijk_21:.

Like Van said; that's what I used to do also.  Then I had a happy accident several months ago.

Likely won't help you with the jack you have.  But an option for later consideration perhaps.

Several months back I needed a new scissor jack.  Asked the crowd here for a concensus choice.  That choice was K&L.

Either because I wasn't paying attention to what I ordered or because they shipped in error I got a wider version of their jack.  Something called the K&L "Fatjack."

Much wider lifting plate.  With the rear of the jack in front of the wishbone it's at a balance point to lift the whole bike.  Works great.  Can change front wheels on the table lift now much more easily than ever could before.

So, no ratchet straps?..or do you tie ratchet straps to rear crash bars for stability?

Have a Condor (think that's right) chock on the front of the lift.  It cradles the front wheel and makes the whole thing such that straps wouldn't be necessary.  I know this because the manufacturer's literature says it is so.

I use straps whenever the bike is on the table anyway.

Do loosen or remove them as necessary when using a scissor jack to raise a bike off the table lift though.  Some tasks just don't allow them to be in place.  Rest of the time the straps are used though.

Van, I've got to admit being tempted by what you and a few others have since done there.  The clear floor is appealing.  But I've never gotten past the apprehension of gunk in the hole when occasionally washing the floor and, more importantly to me, losing the few inches of lift height.  With a different lift it might be a non-concern.  But my old table lift is at a great working height where it's at.  A few inches shorter I'm afraid wouldn't be nearly as comfortable.

Either that or I'm just afraid of change....  :nervous:

Don't you know it....  And it's just painful when someone tries to clean it out by taking a wall mounted vacuum to your pits  :confused5:  .
