Temp guage light
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:50:44 PM »

On my 2009 CVO Ultra the the light in the temp gauge went out. Is the bulb one that I can buy at an auto parts store or do I need to make the trip (150 miles) to the dealer? Anything I should know about changing the bulb?

Now might be a good time to convert to led bulbs, run cooler last longer and are a bit brighter.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fmini-wedge.html

go with the "WLED-R5", thats the bulb most here have gone with...

Just searched my wifes 09 service manual.  Only shows a HD part# 67445-00.  Not sure if its something that can be had at an Auto Parts store or not.  Just had my Fuel gauge light replaced under warranty but never saw the bulb.  After looking at previous post and LED website, it looks like it is a common 194 wedge bulb- 2cp or 168 3cp, but it might get hot.
Hope this helps

Rich

The WLED R5 just replaces the stock bulb? Anything else I need to do? What color is my stock bulb?

Yes it will replace the stock bulb. Same color "red" slightly brighter more to match the speedo/tach. If you have replaced the air temp gauge with the optional oil pressure gauge most say you have to use the old stock bulb but I found out recently there is a hack for that. You can find multiple threads going back to 2005 on this "WLED-R5" conversion.

edit: forgot to mension the stock bulb is clear with a little red condom on top. (the condom actually burns from the heat of the bulb over time), the WLED-R5 is clear but lights up red (no condom)

I am pretty sure the speedo/tach gauges have non replaceable bulbs-you will need 4 led bulbs as REO stated.

Yes Boatman is right speedo/tach are not replacable, you will need 4. Yes you were right in getting the red (hence the "R5" in "WLED-R5")

I am sure you will like them, everyone here has. In fact I have not heard of anyone that has gone back to stock after going to these!

That I can't answer.  Two thoughts though:

1)  it is quite possible the bulb/socket just came out of the back of your gauge.

2)  On my 05 (REO has an 04) SEEG, the other 4 gauges were much dimmer than the speedo/tach so we went to the LED bulbs..  On my 2010 (I assume the same on your 09), all of the gauges are as bright as my speedo/tach-thus not needing the LED's.

Before ordering the LED's, I would just change the bulb or put it back in the socket if that is the case.

Just thinking out loud-FWIW

I already ordered the LED's. I figure if it is burnt out it's just a matter of time before the others go and while I have it apart better to just do them all. The LED's were really cheep.

Sorry if I gave you any bad information here Muddypaws. Just read the other day on HD-forums where a guy with a 2010 cvo ultru went to the WLED-R5,s. I thought the gauges didn't change till 2011, could be a change in the bulb on the 2010,s. I know at $2.99 a bulb I would be going to the led's if I could so good luck. Let everyone here know how it goes.
