Trailering
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:12:14 AM »

The wife and I just bought a trailer to haul or bike.  We like to tour, but this time of year we are planning to trailer to maybe to someplace Like Tennessee, or maybe Colorado and then leave the trailer and truck and ride that part of the country for extended periods.  My question is where do people leave there tow truck and trailer when your off riding.  I do not plan to return to  for maybe two to three weeks at a time.  I have considered contacting some camp grounds to see if they would accommodate me, but am trying to find out what others are doing.  I know that most hotels will allow me to leave the trailer there as long as I am staying there, but seems like a waste of money to pay for a room the the trailer?

Try a storage facility, most of them have outside spaces for rent and they have security fences and people in the office.  Most of them charge so much per foot per month.  Sometime local Harley dealers have an area you can store the trailer that is fenced as well.

Good luck and have a safe trip

Have an acquaintance who uses whatever is the local version of a KOA campground or other place he can rent a spot where a camper might normally park.

Check with a dealership where you are heading... some let you park your trailer/tow vehicle out of the way in their lots while you're touring in the area.

Storage facilities are the best way imo. Very inexpensive and usually pretty secure. They will usually let you pay a month rate for something like you are describing and usually around $50-60 bucks.

If you coming to/near Oklahoma you can leave it here and it will be safe as it is at home.

Just re read your post, if you want to park the rig in Alabama, 90 miles from Chattanooga, I can put it behind a fenced area on our complex.  we have 80 acres so you won't be in the way.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas and offers.  I will keep this information in case I get the opportunity to be in your area.  Wish I could extend the same courtesy to all of you, but living on a canal in Corpus Christi. I hardly have room for my trailer.  But the fishing is great and anyone in the area should look me up have a spare room and a boat in the back yard.

I live in East TN and have three or four places that you can park your rig, free of charge of course. I did travel to FL and left the rig at a friends house. I would also try the dealer option before I'd pay for storage.

My offer is real, private mail for a phone #.

I am in Northeast Texas, outside Texarkana. I have 30 acres and anyone is welcome to park their rigs for as long as they like. If you need to stay, I can give you some power and water also. PM me if you are in the area.

I would venture to say that all the offers are real. Members of this site and other sites have stayed at my place as they have traveled the country and I have stayed at theirs.
