Know your acronyms!
« on: July 08, 2011, 03:13:20 PM »

As I was discussing my situation with the Forrest Lake MPO (Motor Patrol Officer) this afternoon, trying to explain why I was doing 68 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, he asked me for my DL (drivers license) and POI (proof of insurance). He then retired to his PC (Police Cruiser) to see if I had a VDL (valid drivers license) and any PO's (previous offenses).

He let me bake in the sun for a while before reemerging with my UTT (uniform traffic ticket). He ogled my bike for a moment but then asked rather curiously what CVO stood for. I told him Custom Vehicle Operations and explained the Harley meaning of the acronym. He told me that in police parlance it means Criminal Vehicular Operations and that my license generated a bit of concern on his part when he saw it.

When I got home, I googled CVO and found this:

Minnesota law defines six different levels of criminal vehicular operation (CVO).  This includes criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular injury related to alcohol consumption.  All but one level is considered a very serious felony offense.  The severity of the offense and the punishment is impacted by the level of injury inflicted and who may have been injured.

So, I can't say I didn't learn something today, although it cost me $135 and some points!

Not to worry, it's an older photo and I was current on my tabs!

Not sure what he would have done if I had been riding Kandy's bike. Technically the electrical taped ! isn't legal and it emphasizes the CVO. May have to rethink the plate or start consistently driving within the speed limit.

I didn't want to lengthen the conversation. It was a nice day, I WAS speeding, and he did admire my ride.

Sorry for your misfortune, although I've gotta admire your 'attitude' about it all.  Hope those 'points' don't wear you out with the insurance.  spyder

HOGASM

HOG-Harley Owners Group

ASM-Annual Stockholders Meeting

And I have Chip to thank for helping me get my tag back from NC

NC issued me this tag in 04 and then said it was derogatory and took it back
Chip in his own way proudly displayed pictures of his best friends license plate....so I wrote the NCDMV a letter describing the meaning to me of HOGASM and also the pictures of Chip's best friends license plate. I stated that I was perplexed as to why my plate was derogatory and his not.......I now have had my plate back for over a year now :2vrolijk_21:
Thanks Chip

Hey, when you need something handled you call the best.
Your welcome Brian.
HOGASMS always wondered who it was that called NC DMV and pissed and moaned because he had his tag.
Now we all know.
Glad you got your tag back!
