Fairing Install after hawg wired install
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:30:41 PM »

I just installed a hog wired six pack amp/speakers and I am having a hell of a time getting the outer fairing back on.  Amp is as far back as possible, but seems to be a lot of interference at the back of the headlight and all the wires below the radio.  I had removed the XM antenna from the back of the radio just to make the amp install easier, and tested everything prior to installing the fairing.  The XM wasn't working so checked, and the connection was loose.  Pushed it in tighter, and then it worked.  After screwing around getting the fairing on, the XM is out again.  Anyone have any tips for making the fairing install easier.

Bike is a 2008 CVO Ultra.

BTW:  the amp/speakers ROCK

There is not a lot of clearance-everything has to be just right.  I would pull the headlight assy out of the fairing (easy to do) so you can look in there and see where the rub parts are.

Your experience is pretty typical when adding an in-fairing amp and the associated wiring it requires.  Removing the headlight assembly is a good suggestion.  Also, putting  as much wiring along the sides of the HK head unit, and below the HK makes for an easier fairing installation.  You may find it necessary to cut some of the OEM zip ties along the way; and, you'll probably find that it may take several cycles of removing the fairing, routing the wiring, and reinstalling the fairing before you reach the point that the fairing goes back on with virtually zero interference.
