Handle bar diameter
« on: May 24, 2006, 11:33:57 AM »

Hey Guys,
I'm away from home and can't measure right now, and I am trying to order my GPS Mount today.  What is the diameter of the handlebars, (stock), on my '05 SEEG?

I am looking at going with the chrome tech-mount product with the 1" shaft, unless someone has a better idea.

I think it's 1.25"

I know I had to get the larger size U bolt for my RAM mount for my Garmin

Cheers

I used item "W" (see links below) on my 04.  Works great!  When you first mount it, don't use Locktite.  After you find the position that you like, remove all three bolts and add Loctite.  I positioned mine as close to the clutch master cylinder as I could get it with the ball facing toward the rear of the bike.

I think you will like this mount much more tha the u-bolt type clamps. IMHO they look too cheesy.

P.S.  I also used items I* and D* along with the Touratech mount

I've got the locking bracket coming from Garmin with the unit, so that part is covered.  I looked at the RAM mounts with the ball, like you have, but I was afraid that would be too easy to disassemle and have someone walk off with my GPS.  Have you had not any trouble with that?
that's why I was looking at the TechMount unit... http://www.techmounts.com/products/index.php?page_function=detail&product_id=70  I figured with the allen bolt fasteners, it wouldn't be so prone to walking off without me.  I like the looks of that bracket, (although pricey)...   very hi-tech looking.  kinda sexy....

Yep, agreed - very sexy - but VERY pricey...

Nobody walks off with my Garmin - I hang my helmet over the whole shebang when I go to pay for for fuel - other times I just take it off - easy!

Cheers

Good idea.  I usually throw my helmet up on the right mirror, but if I hand it over the GPS....   yup, most folks won't steal what the don't know is there...   Thanks!

You're welcome - you're very welcome.

I love this place - I should really be asleep by now (00:05) - I set off on a grand European tour tomorrow/today... (Thursday) to France (shhh - don't say it), Belgium (good beer), Holland (there may be some "smoke" there...), Germany (better beer), Denmark (expensive beer but good bacon...) Sweden (really expensive beer but great Blondes...) and finally Norway (eh - I never was there before but I believe everything is so expensive you better take some beer from Belgium and while you're at it take a blonde fom Sweden - and maybe a wurst from Germany and some bacon from Denmark - just in case...)

Wish me luck - the weather forecast calls for rain, heavy rain and then more bloody rain for the entire 2 week trip

Hey Ho - Skin is waterproof - Right?

Cheers

Correct Dave, skin is waterproof, but your rectum may not be.
Hence, when riding in the rain, one should always be careful NOT to do anything which might make one pucker, as you may spring a reverse leak.

The short version of that is:  be careful and have fun!  I'm jealous!

Hey 'breeze, when ya get that mount, let me know how the holes line up w/ the Garmin cradle, iffin' ya don't mind. I've got my 2730 on a Ram mount, but kinda worried about security w/ the thumb screw.

Will do.  I ordered the 1" mount with the 3.5" arm on it this morning.  (1.25" just didn't smell right to me for some reason so I waited until I got home.)  Bigger'n dog snot, the bars were only 1" units.  Is that what I SHOULD have?  as in, I wouldn't put it past my stealership to have swapped out my bars so they could put the fat ones on another bike to make a skinny buck on me yet again.  I was thinkin' that I read somewhere that the bars on the SEEG's were 1 1/8".... Your measurement is right Breeze.  The larger OD (and cooler looking and more comfortable) bars that have been mentioned around here before are the Chubby 575s from Wild 1.
