Ducati Multistrada 1200S Touring
« on: July 13, 2011, 03:15:52 PM »

Thought since some folks were talking about the new BMW 1600, might want to take a look at this revised version of the Multistrada.  I had the 2005 version, but this one has/does it all.  I don't know if I'd want to do 500 mile days on it, but it's still an awesome ride.  You either love or hate the looks...it's definitely Italian.  I read an interesting stat a few years ago...don't know if it still holds true...but half of Ducati owners in the US also own a Harley.  There was at one time a rumor that HD and Ducati were going to merge in some fashion or the other, but that never happened.

150HP on a bike that weighs less than 500lbs...and I thought my '05 was scarey.

Click on the Touring model to see a short video with some of the features...heated grips, 4 suspension modes, ABS, adjustable windscreen, "new" watercooled engine.  You don't put chrome on a Duck...Carbon Fiber bits and pieces.

My short little azz would need a step stool just to get on that thing. I'm sure it's a great bike just not for me.

If they do then I will have to have some of those cheap azz stick on trailer graphics like you used for those training wheels.
Or maybe your post was for Mr. Warlock?
Or was that a dig at Terry?
Either way IMHO that bike is butt ugly. (even with cheap stick on graphics)

Oh...have no intention of ever getting rid of the SERGU, unless something happens where I have no choice...again.

Seat height on this bike is an issue, though the bike is so light, it's not difficult to slide your butt off to one side and hold it up with one leg at stop lights.  I had to do that on the '05 I had, and never even came close to dropping it.  The look of the bike is something you either like or don't.  It is different than anything else out there in many ways, and it's a Ducati, which has the same loyal following as HD, just on a MUCH smaller scale.  Unique sound/feel.  I may not want it as a primary bike, but if I could afford two bikes, this one would get serious cosideration just for the fun factor.

a Ducati, .  Unique sound/feel.
Yep, I use to love hearing the Duc's at the track....you could always tell them by the unique exhaust note out of a group of bikes w/o even looking.  ;) spyder

I figure one motorcycle isn't a collection. I'd love to add a Multistrada to my collection. It looks to be something different and fun to ride. More of an on-road /off-road toy.  :2vrolijk_21:

Not sure I'd consider it for any 'off-road' riding.....prolly much better choices for a on road/off road bike.  JMHO.  spyder

Oh, I don't know, think it would hold its own. Bike won the 2010 Pikes Peak race.

Video of warm up run here, 105 mph was the top speed I saw.

Here's a head to head comparison of the 2010 Multi to the BMW 1200GS.  The Duc favors the paved or good dirt roads...the BMW is better when you get into rough stuff off road.  Both will do either, but each is biased a bit.

That Pike's Peak run made the pucker factor go up this morning.

It helps if I put the link on here...sorry.

The looks aren't for me but with Ohlins suspension and brembo brakes I'll bet it handles great. As for the seat height I saw under accessories that they sell a low seat for it.

Way to tall for my short inseam! If I was wanting to ride that way I would buy a 'Busa. I don't dig the look either.
