Drive belt adjustment
« on: May 25, 2006, 12:19:15 PM »

What do you guys use to torque the axle nut after adjusting your drive belt?  Service manual calls for Axle Nut Torque Adapter, p/n HD-47925, which allows you to use torque wrench without removing the right muffler.  Dealer does not stock the part.  Tech showed me the $60+ Snap-On ratchet wrench he uses.  Guess I may have to drop the muffler as last resort.

I usually have both mufflers off anyways, only takes a couple minutes to pull em, it's good to hold the other side in place while you torque down the other, it can move on ya.

I have the Kastar 36mm rear axle nut ratchet wrench has 1/2 square drive hole for torque wrench. $69.95 from Dennis Kirk  page 845 of their 2006 Harley Catalog part number 28-2304.

Another option is to pull the shock bolts and drop the swing arm down below the pipes.
