My local dealer wanted a deposit, but not much, only $200.  They said they needed it to do the sales agreement paperwork.  Which as others have said, at least gets on paper with a signature, what the agreed upon deal is.

And that was a very good thing in my case as the sales manager I had my deal with left suddenly.  :o

I am now working with a new sales manager that had no idea what the old manager had agreed to do, but since it was in writing is going to honor it.  Which is giving me full retail price on my trade since I bought my 1st CVO from them and do all my service with them.  No other dealer around here would agree to that on a CVO, they said they are just too easy to sell.  And as everyone knows, there is a huge difference between retail and trade on a bike.

I've always just put $100 down and got my purchase agreement (contract).  My understanding is once you've put a deposit down and have your purchase agreement, they're obligated by law to produce! :2vrolijk_21:

That may be true for most bikes, but being we are talking about CVOs which are a limited run and cannot be ordered that is not really the case.  If you read the fine print on the back of the contract it says the dealer is only under obligation to honor the contract if they can acquire the bike from the manufacturer.  If they cannot, they can at their discretion, offer to honor the contract with the following model year for the difference in list price if applicable.  And in the case of the CVOs, if they offer the same model the following year.

My dealer is doing just that for me.  I had a contract for a 2011 black/crimson SG and they were unable to find me one.  So when I found out they were coming out with them again in 2012 I asked if they would honor the deal for a 2012 and they said they would.  So they are now trying to get me a 2012 slate/black SG for the same deal + the $200 increase in list price.

When we looked yesterday morning on the dealer locater none had been delivered to VT or NH yet.  Hopefully soon, and hopefully they can get one if they do not get one sent to them.

Are the contracts different in California? :nixweiss:

Not sure if HD has a standard contract they use in every state or if they are state dependant.  I have only seen the ones in NH.  All I know is I read mine very carefully from top to bottom, and front to back, when my dealer said they could not locate the bike I wanted.  I wanted to know just what they did or did not have to honor and what they could hold me to as far as my deposit if I decided to go to another dealer to find one.  And the dealers, here in NH at least, have an out if they cannot get the bike from the factory.

I'm curious, when I was looking at the features on the HD web site, I didn't see any reference to a CVO KEY OR COVER.  Another cost savings measure??

Also, CVO Sales brochures weren't available at the dealer.....yet.

FWIW: I'm thinking there is going to be some serious price compression on the 2011 and 2010 CVO Street Glides and The Road Glides as the 2012 prices rollout to more and more of the buying public.

Regards

Jerry

I saw a 2012 SESG in black today in Kansas city. They turned on the stereo. it sounds like a home stereo. Its really cool how they just use the lids to house the speakers and amp. They leave the bag empty for storage. It still has the Ipod interface too. It Rocks, even louder than last years model. It will be worth the wait.

The amp mounts in the lid as well?

According to everything that I have read, It's 400 watts...200w amp in the fairing and 200w in the saddlebags.
