Followed 92 all the way up to Delta and then caught Hwy 50 south into Montrose. Temps were now into the mid 90's so one sight of the A&W sign meant we had to stop for some Nectar of the Gods!

Pressed on south to the little mountain town of Ouray. Seen many times on the forum, this little village is so picturesque, you just can't help but stop for a while.

Being one of the endpoints of the Million Dollar Highway, Ouray is popular with bikers and tourists alike. We headed up out of town and were quickly overwhelmed with the scenery, waterfalls, rushing rivers and stunning views.

This was another one of those roads where, depending on which way you were traveling, you got a completely different view of the world.

Made it up to Red Mountain Pass at slightly over 11,000 feet. Temps in the low 50's and plenty of snow.

Heading up and down the mountains you got to experience the changing seasons in a compressed time frame. Quick transitions from snow, to green, to sparse vegetation.

Dropped down into Silverton and caught Hwy 550 for the trip up over Coal Bank Pass. At 10,640 feet, not quite a high as Red Mountain Pass but another quick trip up into the snow and cool air.

Continued down Hwy 550 into Durango and found a room for the night at the Best Western. More groups of motorcyclists stopping for the night and more opportunities to trade stories and look at chrome. Two nice couples with each on their own HD's heading north from Texas and two couples on Gold Wing trikes pulling trailers on a 60 day trip across this great country of ours. Always fun to see folks on scooters!

Had dinner at Tequila's in Downtown and walked up and down the streets until dusk. End of a great day #2 of riding!

Day 3 started at Durango HD with the purchase of the obligatory t-shirt. We headed west on Hwy 160 to Cortez. Yet another type of scenery and beauty!

Took Hwy 145 north out of Cortez and went through 50 miles of the prettiest canyon/river valley riding I've ever seen. Gassed up at Rico and headed on up to Telluride.

Lunch in Telluride was an experience. The Bluegrass festival was coming into town that weekend and the park was full of campers and artists and musicians were roaming the streets.

Took Hwy 145 out of Telluride over to Naturita. Some real nice canyon and riverside riding. The snowpack in Colorado last winter was twice normal so the rivers were really moving along. Ran into some rafters in Naturita and they said many of the normal rivers were just too intense so they were taking folks on the rivers that hadn't been navigable for several years. Saw lots of folks enjoying rafting and kayaking along the way.
