The next 90 miles were the surprise leg of the trip. Paul remembered taking hwy 141 in a car many years ago and said it was a beautiful road. We hadn't planned on getting this far west and passed on going to Mesa Verde and Four Corners so we could take this route. This road through the ever-changing canyon scenery was just fantastic!

Every corner revealed different types of rock formations. Some angling up, some curved rock formations that looked like spaceships. There weren't many turnouts or stopping points but that mattered little as we probably saw 10 cars in 90 miles!

This is another stretch like the Black Canyon north rim road where we could have spent hours just taking photos.

Came upon this little resort town of Gateway, CO 2/3rd's through the route. Seemed like a real nice place to get away from it all. Paul found out after we got back that they have a world class auto museum there. Now we'll have to go back!

Popped out of the canyon about 10 miles south of Grand Junction. Had a quick burger there and dashed up I-70 to Rifle where we called it a night. Hard to believe the sheer amount of beauty we witnessed in one day from Duarngo to Cortez, to Telluride, to Rifle. Colorado is certainly blessed with nearly limitless natural beauty!

Great photos and ride report also! :2vrolijk_21:

A person would be hard pressed to not have a good time in southwest Colorado.  But then a person would be hard pressed to not have a good time just about anywhere in that state!

Mesa Verde is definately worth the ride over.....those cliff dwellings from the last century are incredable. :2vrolijk_21:

Tuesday morning we headed up I70 to Beaver Creak where we had lunch al fresco with my sister Jane. The Colorado River was absolutely gushing and at several points had taken out bike paths and scenic stops.

After lunch we headed up to Vail Pass for one more shot of snow and some cooler air.

The bikes ran flawlessly, the weather was as close to perfect as you can get, the food was great, the lodging reasonably priced, the company outstanding, the scenery was a testament to the creativity of our God, and we arrived back in Denver safe and sound with just over 1000 miles on the odo.

Few things better than great friends, motorcycles, the great outdoors, and a few days off!

If I could just ride in one state it'd be Colorado (western). Thanks for sharing.

Awesome adventure and fantastic scenery. I grew up in Montrose and a buddy in Grand Junction so it's always good to back and see him and his family. I did the Black Canyon run the the end of May and got snowed on but it sure was a good ride. Went the back way into Delta and then GJ. Thanks for sharing these with us.
