Another Eagle landed in Bama
« on: May 28, 2006, 02:33:33 AM »

Hey gang,
Sorry I have not been around to read, post, etc., but picked up my baby May 1st. and been riding alot. She is the Black Candy scheme and flys like the wind. Totally happy with the bike. I see TCnBham
had post a Eagle has landed in Bama so now another is there.
Below is what I have learned about the bike, good and bad.
First off the Wobble people are talking about. Yes, at 80 plus MPH she has it, what I believe to be an Aero problem. I say this because if the wind is head on or dead behind me there is no wobble...yet any other direction it's there. I have found that by removing the left and right Lexan wind deflectors on the lower fairing the problem goes away. I firmly believe the design of the reflectors are the cause. A possible fix could be a thicker materal with a shape change.......
I ride and I ride alot...by the end of the first week she was ready for her 1000 mile service. I live in Foley Alabama but bought the bike from Renegade Harley in Alexander La., 400 miles away.(A damn good bunch of folks I may add!) My plan was to have the service done locally but could not get her in anywhere around home. I called Renegade and asked them would it be a problem if the bike rolled in with 1400 miles and they merely said "A man gotta do what a mans gotta do". WOOOOHOOOO...now I get a 800 mile round trip road trip to make! Damn, what luck eh!  [smiley=banana.gif]
Anyway, once there they informed me that they WOULD NOT BE PUTTING SYN3 back in the transmission. They had 3 S/E trannys come back with major problems and for no real reason other than the possibility of the SYN3 not doing it's job. They have since gone back to using the old HD tranny oil with no problems...HAS anyone else heard of a tranny problem with SYN3?
Otherwise...all is well with me a Louise (yes, the cuse has a name!)
I hope all is well with everyone and looking forward to all the post (when I pry my ass off her ;-)
Later,
Rusty
PS
Picture this...While on the interstate with cruise control on, Aerosmith blasting away, feet laid up on the hiway pegs, speedo reading 90... and at the right moment using the cigarette liter to lite up a smoke just blows those pukes in the cages away. Yessir...life is good! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Glad you got your bike and are enjoying it so much! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

You may want to try a set of "Freedom wings" instead of the HD air deflectors. This way you have infinate adjustment and can open them when it gets hot or you get fast. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]
I have not heard of any syn3 failures in this area and both dealers still use it. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

seuceg,
Congrats on picking up your new scooter. Looks like you doing the right thing with it (putting it in the wind).  Now you know that we all want to see some pictures....

As for the transmission fluid thing this is the first I've heard about this. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

1) You hit the nail on the head about the "wobble". Been riding bat-wing faired Electra Glides for 14 years and I have the same experience. My '06 Candy Crimson is rock solid at 90 mph with passenger and low windshield. I don't expect any change in handling, maybe improved, when I go to a taller windshield.
2) My dealer didn't tell me about any tranny failures, but recommended Redline or other brands of trans oil if I do not stay with the Syn3 at service intervals. I have read reports of quieter operation after switching off Syn3, but I have not noted any unusual noisiness with mine.  Now that I read your post I wonder if the dealership mechanic was trying to tell me something? We'll have to keep an eye on this, but I don't know why these trannys would be more susceptable to failure over an 88 or 95 inch bike.

Glad you are enjoying the bike and keep us posted on the trans issue.

Isn't this the only one that comes w/ the SYN3 in the tranny?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  spyder

Hey Gang,
Thanks for all the well wishes, etc. I'll keep all posted on what I learn about the tranny issue. So far mine is good, hopefully stay that way.
As for pics, I'll be sure to post some as soon as possible. I'm a ship Captain an at sea as I write this, only a week or two left on this hitch then I'll be in the wind...cam and all.
My lady and I are plotting out a run to Montanna, with a short break in Sturgis in Aug. [smiley=banana.gif] Anyone else heading to the Rally this year?
