Welcome from Los Angeles, SoCal.

My neighbor across the street has a nice GL1800, and you are right on all those accounts. Most can be taken care of. You can add a WheelDock EZ Up Center Stand. You can "build and tune" the engine for more HP, and you can tune the suspension for better high speed handling. Or you just let the Goldwings race ahead, get a table and order food and drinks so it's all waiting when you arrive. And when you arrive on the CVO, folks WILL notice you more than the Goldwing.

I'm going to get a center stand. I'll look into the one you've suggested.
I'm not worried about building the motor. I'll probably fulsac the header pipe, dyne tune it and leave it at that. The main motivation for that will be reduced catalytic heat.
I don't care about the high speed handling. I don't want to ride fast on this. I race an r6 and a gsxr750 with the local race club. That takes care of my need for speed. I enjoy the under 75 mph riding on the Harley.

Welcome from Texas!  I just joined this site also as a result of buying the same bike.  I didn't see mention of the bike's color anywhere though?

As far as the comparisons go - as many have said, most of your shortcomings vs. the Goldwing can be fixed - with a little time and money.  Centerstand, power and even reverse can be added (I've seen it on some Harley's - but it's lots of $$$$).  The handling is pretty good given the size of the bike and I do pretty well on it in the twisties - just not quite as fast as I can do on BMW's, etc.

Enjoy!
