Speedometer issues
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:43:39 PM »

Yesterday my speedo stopped working for a few miles, then started working again? But it seemed the reading was 10 Km faster than it should have been. I stopped and shut the bike off for 10 minutes. After starting it seemed to be fine. This is the second time this summer it's happened. Any thoughts?

What year and model of bike?  Some of the '07s (mine included) had a problem with the stepper motors that run the tachometer and speedometer.  They would not return to zero and so read too high until shut off, sometimes several times until it went back to zero.  There is also a sending unit that can go bad.

Sorry, 08 SERK. Wondering if maybe a code tripped in the computer that might have to be reset?

I had an '08 SERK Annie and just before I traded it in I noticed that the tach would change and or the speed would change from my normal speed/rpm readings.

The speedo would bounce a bit, but then after a few starts/stops of the ignition, it stopped doing that.  I traded it in and on my '09 SERG I've never seen any problems.

I'm not sure if the second owner ever had any issues with it or ever replaced it.  Sorry I can't help any more, but at least I've had a similar situation with the same year and model of bike.

I'm hoping when I can get it looked at, it's just an error code. If not i guess I'm in for a spending spree! :nixweiss:

Thanks, I will check that. I thought if I unhooked the battery for a minute or two, it would reset things as well.  :nixweiss:
