    • CVO2: Not CVO 2003 Road King Classic (Wife's) Sold her 99'RKC (Tinman)

First I want to say, it is not a fair or correct statement to say "lots of us CVO owners have/had problems." I bought my 2009SEUC used a little over a year ago. Love the bike! Things I wanted to change, engine to quiet, ran hot due to factory lean condition and cat in headpipe. Fullsac baffles, Big Sucker A/C, PCV, install cat headpipe from 96" motor, problem solved. Only other issue OEM radio display went out and was replaced under factory warranty. I have had two HD production bikes, still have 03 Road King Classic, any future bikes I purchase for my wife or myself will be CVO's. You can't go wrong with a used CVO.IMO

Glad I joined up for sure now.  The info I've gotten so far in replies will surely save me more than a few headaches and a big chunk of change.

Heat issue:
90+ stuck in traffic, getting hot but not firing one cyl yet.  How hot are you guys talking degrees wise with the cat still on it vs. new exhaust without cat.
Can you remove the cat without having to put on new headers?

I realize the exhaust note with stock is not so good, what do you guys like?
When I added Rinehart True Duals to mine I had to mount washers inside the baffles to get enough back pressure for the Daytona TT tuner to work right.  Once I did that it was sweet.  Any similar probs with CVO and new pipes?

My local dealer mentioned V&H pipes but I got the idea he was talking about slipons.  Any need for new headers?

So far I haven't heard one person say they would not do CVO again, and that's encouraging.

Ya know I just realized all my questions are prolly addressed in this forum already.  Sorry if I didn't follow protocol.  So far in general discussion I've got a treasure trove of info from one post.  Y'all have already shown you are a community that's all about helping each other and the newcomers, and I appreciate it.  I'll do my best to contribute.

My 05 SEEG was my first SE, and I am very pleased, two years and 30m miles later, not one issue, I have been in traffic on a 100 degree day and only topped out at 249 degrees on the oil temp. The Screaming Banana is my last unless someting bad happens, I would still buy another 103.

Sledge,
The heat difference with the cat in vs. the cat out is hard to quantify. Unless someone on here has done some measurements...I got no idea.  :-\

I noticed some extra heat on my new (and stock) 2011 Road Glide Ultra today. But, the temps were in the low 90's. I'm sure it would have been hot with my Fullsac equiped 09 SEUC too.

I have a 07 SERK (110) only problem that i have had is with the cruise control, dealer could not fix it so i did, The recall that came out on the gaskets etc. i never did have any problems, the tires that came on the bike did not cup the second set did, replaced them with Metzler's, solved that problem and have never had The Death  Wobble before or after i added the faring. Maybe i was lucky and got a good one, But yes i would buy another CVO, Or nothing at all.

My 09 FXDFSE has a rattle in the engine like many others' here, voltage regulator and stator fried as well. Only 2 K miles or about 20 rides to date. Nice looking bike, hope the chithouse luck runs out so I can enjoy this big $ ride. 1980 low rider ran 19 years without a hiccup.

I had a 09 SERG and other that the heat in stop and go traffic, which you get on any bike in my opinion not a single problem, still ran great when I traded it in last week. it also brought more trade in value than a new stock model, and yes the new one is also a CVO, like many of the others who buy CVO's I looked into adding on all the goodies myself and you cant come close to the price doing it yourself. it's all about the resale down the road

Another lucky one who got a good 07 SERK.  If I had to replace would probably get a SESG since I added the fairing to the RK and love it.

  • I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

Reports & or opinions about problems with these bike is way over-blown & exaggerated in my opinion!  I am on my 3rd CVO '04 SEEG, '07 & '08 Ultra without any problems what so ever including heat issues & I am ridding in the south.  The '04 SEEG was my first Harley bought for the motor & uniquenss of the bike as has been the case for the Ultras.  I would not buy a stock Harley if CVO's were available.  Yes you can buy the parts as add-ons (not sure about issues getting painted parts) for more money but you can't replicate it as a true CVO.  These bikes are unique, beautiful, fun to ride & own.  I dont think I have been on too many rides when someone has not come up to me complementing me on these bikes.  I have truley enjoyed riding & owning them my only regreat is that Harley keeps comming out with new additions!

BTW, the 2012's look fantastic and once again Harley has come up with some great paint & additional features!

Also, I have very much enjoyed the friends I have made on this site & at get togeathers related to our CVO's - super folks!
