Road tech 660 on 2011 FLHXSE2
« on: July 31, 2011, 05:41:30 PM »

I know that somewhere in here there was a solution posted on how to make the correct connections so that the GPS will work with the NIM. If someone knows how this is done or where it is posted I would appreciate it. I was speaking with my dealers service manager and he did not know how to make the connections . He said that if I supplied him with the information he would do the installation.

If someone could post clear install directions for the NIM I would be very thankful.

Thanks but I thought there was a post with  information how to install the NIM and the Road tech 660  because there are connectors missing in the FLHXSE2 harness and there is a way to work around the missing connectors.

The post shows how to connect the NIM or IPod module. You are missing connector 6 so you just splice the wires from the MIN or IPod into the existing wires on connector 28A on the Radio. You will still have to install some new wires to connector 28A on the back of the radio.

This thread has the information you need, though not the step-by-step "how to" you'd prefer for the NIM:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=56934.0

There is a wiring diagram with part nos. for  installing the XM module and to do the NIM would require a slight variation primarily because the NIM uses different pinouts of the HK radio and the 35 wire connector (connector 28) that accesses those pinouts.  There is also a wiring diagram for the NIM showing how the wiring should be done.

The most obvious issue is due to the fact that there is no 6B connector and, because there is no 6B connector as there typically is on the other bikes, the power and ground that would be supplied to the NIM module using the 6B connector with the harnesses supplied with the NIM/Ipod modules must be supplied by alternative means--either make a 6B connector and using the harness supplied with the NIM, or splice the power and ground from the OEM ipod harness between the module and the HK radio and modify the harness supplied with the NIM accordingly.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the help. Had the GPS installed at the dealer yesterday and they did it right with the help from your posts.

You're welcome; glad it worked for you.

When this noncompatability issue arose with the SESG2, I thought it MUST have been some screw-up at HD to omit the 6B connector.  But, seeing as the SESG3 has the same omission, and HD says the XM, NIM, and CB won't fit the SESG3, the product planners simply didn't intend for those popular accessories to be available for the SESG2/3.  Dumb.

The dealer said the difference is because the amp is mounted on top of the radio and thats why the harness is different. Don't make much sense to me , but thats no suprize from the company.
