if the guvmint stayed out of cars and trucks there would still be a streak of grease and oil down the middle of every lane on the road - like there used to be [remember when there was only a streak about a foot wide that was safe to ride on? everybody got real good at riding straight - or crashed.

and being near a road with a traffic jam smelled so bad i always felt i was going to barf

and steering wheels would still be attached to solid steel rods down to the the sector box

and seat belts and air bags would still be add ons for the safety minded folks

what we all really want is the guvmint to stay out of motorcycle emissions - maybe we can get the tea party folks to do that too? after they cut medicare and social security by half to balance the income expense ratio.

I hear what your saying. But I think consumer demand ultimately would dictate these same improvements. They want to strangle the chit out of our emissions but then blast an effin space shuttle thru the ozone. Give me a break.

He did not sell me with the "premium" crank BS. Assembled right on the main assembly line...that fact alone should clue buyers to take apart, inspect, blueprint on reassembly as Hillside says.

Agreed.  More a matter for states IMHO than the fed as to emissions & such.  The fed does too damn much stuff now, and does it poorly.  Our bikes get detuned by the Moco, who can honestly say - the fed makes us do it.  Then they can sell us crap to basically retune them as they should have been shipped.  It's a money maker for the Moco, a major PITA for us.

Plus the fed can exclude itself from any damn deal it chooses to exclude itself from, while we are forced to comply.  That's one of the things that pisses me off the most.

I wonder what the Greenhouse Gas output of a rather jolly unicorn would be? Might be listed in Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2008-0508-2278?

Look around and you can find the engine for about $4200 out there but be ready to spend a little time cleaning it up. I still think its a good buy but tearing it apart is the smartest thing I did to mine.

Where are you finding for $4200??? At this cost its a no brainer, i want one for my 04 Pumpkin.. And i totally agree with you on tearing them down and cleaning up,, also a must to check run outs too..

No Warranty is my first reason to stay away. Sounds like it could have problems built right in for a fee of $4,200.00 +

$4-$5k, without throttle body and of course exhaust system......but maybe it included a high quality Chinese crankshaft?
Nice to see a 120" out there, but detuned for emissions wonder just how effective it will be. Of course none of us would ever run non-street use products on our rides would we?  :nixweiss:  :huepfenjump3:

20% off making highest MSRP'd variant $4800 is cheap for that much displacement in the Harley arena.  Of course $5 grand would be a significant Chevy crate motor so we have to remember how much we're really getting comparatively hosed.  But in the Harley world that's a steal.

Wonder about reliability

I have almost 7k on my 120r and just returned from a 3500 mile/8 day trip thru from Northern Illinois to Steamboat Springs, CO, thru the Rocky Mountains for a few days, then to Deadwood, SD and back home.  The motor ran in 95 degree heat and over 12,000 ft. elevations like a champ...   :2vrolijk_21:

There must be quite a few of these 120 motors out there now and I have yet to hear of any failures.
