Road Glide Exhaust Options
« on: August 08, 2011, 12:47:33 PM »

I was gonna wait until spring...but the heat coming from this bike is unconmfortable! I installed the Fullsac Stage 1 on my 09 SEUC and was pleased with the results. But, are there any other exhaust options that will cool this bike as effectively? Give me your thoughts.

There are numerous options out there.  On my SESG, I put on the Vance and Hines Power Duals and 4" basic cans, SESPT, and had the AFR lowered to about 13.7, it's runs a lot cooler than it did stock.  On my SEURG, I decided I wanted to keep the stock headers/shields on it, so I had the dealer take the CAT out of the collector.  They did that for me for $95 and then I put Klock Werks Revolver mufflers on, SESPT tuner and had the AFR brought down to about 13.7.  It runs a lot cooler than have that super-heated CAT putting all that hot air on my right leg.  Much more enjoyable to ride.

Based solely on most bang for the buck, it's hard to beat the Fullsac Xpipe, baffles, and TTS w/cables and provided MAP.  All totaled, <$1100 and no dyno time.  Do it yourself install.  Mine runs great with the canned map, and it's cooler than stock.  I looked at it every which way I could, and that was the most cost effective method to get where I wanted to be.

RD,
I'm surprised a dealer would do that. Figured it was a no, no.  ;)

I hear ya. Based on my previous experience, that would be Option #1. Just curious to hear what others have done...and their overall success in cooling the 'ol 110 down.

BTW, my brother-in-law rode my bike on Saturday...IN SHORTS! Yep, he got to experience how much heat the CAT throws on your right leg.  :o

How is the CAT removed from the stock head pipe? Is that something I could do myself? I would like to open the exhaust up and cool it down a little.

Basically, you remove the head pipe, then cut it in half where the cat is (where the two pipes go into the CAT), remove the cat material, then weld it back together.  The cutting in half part is easy, it's the welding it back together that's the problem, but most any good muffler shop should be able to do so.  Or, you can contact Fullsac...they will swap out one already done for under $200 bucks, I think.  You just send yours back to them in the same box. Tell 'em your a member here.

IMHO

I choose Fuel Moto's SS head pipe with ceramic coating inside and out with life time warranty.  Kept my stock SE muffler cans removed stock restrictive baffles and replaced with Fullsac's 1.75 baffles.  Not to loud at idle but just what I was looking for when you open the throttle.  The quailty of the head pipe is fantastic and Jamie and Keith are great to work with at FM.
