Hi folks,
I'm thinking of upgrading my REAR Dunlop 402-16 on a 03 Roadking to a Dunlop E3 MU90-16. I've read that it's a close fit, with some saying it barely clears the belt guard and others saying one needs to trim the guard and/or add a different wheel spacer to keep it from rubbing. I know the MT90 for the front will fit. The rear tire is my concern.
The E3 "is" slighty wider, but those of you that have tried it, will it fit or not? Should I just stay with the 402 blackwalls?
If not, what size should I be looking for?
*This 03 FLHRC has laced wheels with wide whites now. I am going to the 9 spoke, chromed cast wheel and want to go blackwalls this time.
Thanks for any insight, guys!

Hi Folks,
Just wanted to offer some observations, now that I've installed the Elite 3's on new cast wheels...
I went with the Harley 9 spoke chrome 3"x16" wheels...Very nice and well packaged for shipment. But...they were full of casting sand and need to be thoroughly washed out, and all the borings need to be chased with a tap. They were full of shavings and debris!
After both wheels were assembled, each was placed on a truing stand to check for rotational balance. Both wheels ran out true and only took 1/2 ounce of tape weight to equalize. The weights were attached with painter's tape to the rims and removed after the test. I went with 2 ounces of DynaBeads inside each tire for final balancing. The beads seem to do their magic, I only hear a "ssshhh" noise while rolling the bike out of my garage.
For my 03 RK, the MT90 is the correct tire for this bike. It installed with no problems. The MU series would have been a pita!
After mounting the tires on the rims and airing up to 40psi, I measured the E3's and the take-off Dunlop 402's. Here's what I saw in height differences:
The MT90 E3 Front is about 1/4" Shorter than the stock 402's. Both Front and Rear 402's measured the same at 24.875".
The MT90 E3 Rear is about 3/4" Taller than the Front E3, and about 1/2" Taller than the stock 402's.
These tires/wheels have exceeded my expectations! They roll smooth and track straight. They arc through the turns like they are on a rail, no squishiness at all! I highly recommend the E3's if you are running stock Dunlop 402's. I will never go back to 402's on this bike, and I sure don't miss cleaning whitewalls!
And finally, I bought the wheels and a few other items from Rebecca at Tri-County. She ordered and shipped them immediately and I had them in less than a week! Fabulous service, attention to detail, and VERY affordable shipping! She's a peach!
Thanks again guys!
