TTS mastertune with XIED?
« on: August 09, 2011, 11:35:10 AM »

Installed a TTS Mastertune, Jackpot header, Fulsac 2.25 baffles, K&N air filter and had dyno tuned at Docs Performance in FL, (what a great guy to work with, really knows his sh!t).
I did have the Night Rider Xi-eds (resisters in O2 sensor harness to fool ECM into making AFR richer)  installed from the time the bike was new, the plugs were a nice light caramel color so they did work good to richen it up but after riding with the new header they did nothing to reduce the heat. I also went to Redline 20-60 engine oil, it didnt do anything for the noise but did increase the hot idle oil pressure.
I have about 500 miles on the bike since tune and have a noticeable reduction in engine noise, that annoying rattle/ticking at approx 2100-2600rpm. I am very pleased about that, not to mention the reduction of right side heat and how great the bike runs/idles.  The handle bar/mirror shake has all but dissapeared.  As a career mechanic I cant explain this reduction of noise and can only conclude it is a result of the TTS and good tune balancing the cylinders (it is definitely almost gone). I will say the bike runs so much better and is a total joy to ride.  I don't want to get you guys started but it should come out of the box like this!

This is the only post I have seen regarding XIED's with TTS (found in Excessive Valve/Lifter Noise thread).  I also got XIED's for my 2008 RK police 103 to richen the AFR for Big Sucker intake and V&H oval mufflers.  I subsequently got TTS and took the XIED's off, and just yesterday installed Rush ceramic duals because I was still getting parade mode if I sat through the same light twice at 85 degrees, decel pop, and my mirrors were nearly useless.  Re-tuning today, and I notice the TTS (updates downloaded today 8/9/2011), tuning item comments for closed loop still specifically recommends not setting the closed loop offset >798 (14.25:1 AFR in closed loop mode).  The XIED's supposedly "fool" the ECM into operating at 13.8:1.  Much as I prefer not having other stuff on the bike it appears I am better off putting the XIED's back on and making no initial offset change in TTS for the vTune sessions.

I am puzzled by this, has anyone else had success using XIED's with TTS?

I've been using the XIED, catless with Fulsac baffles for about a year and i'm happy with it. I guess I could also install TTS but I see no reason to do so.

X2  On my Stage 1 the FL-Xieds have increased drivability nicely, runs a little cooler, better low end response.

If you want a richer idle, just take it out of closed loop.
set your idle to what ever afr you want.?
of course this is presumming you have the ve's correct.
you have to do your vtune in closed loop, but you don't have to leave it in closed loop when done.

Just FYI, both Stephen Mullen (XIED manufacturer) and Steve@fullsac replied NOT to use XIED in conjunction with any tuning software.
