I'd be inclined to say no. I had a 2011 Limited and put about 10,000 miles on it. I recently traded it for a 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra. Completely stock the heat on the bottom and outside of my right thigh was darn hot on both bikes. The Bat wing seems to let a little more air flow over the top of your leg but that doesn't help the situation. I did a Fuel Moto stage 1 with cat-less head pipe on the Limited and helped tremendously. The bike ran great but I did take about a 3 mpg hit on my highway mileage due to the AFR with the PCV. On my CVO I decided to try something different. I removed the stock head pipe and gutted out the cat material. I didn't cut it in half, I cut a window out on the outboard side adjacent to the cat and removed all the material. Took me about an hour. Had a friend mig weld the panel back in place. Sitting behind the heat shield can't even tell it was done. Kept the stock mufflers as well with no tuner. The bike sounds a little deeper and runs great. The heat reduction is noticeable but not as great as it would be if I'd fattened up the AFR. Overall I'm pretty happy and will probably call it good. On the highway it'll average between 41 and 42 mpg running in the low 70 mph range. That's better than my Limited ever got stock.

I've had both....and don't believe the two fairing styles effect the engine heat in any way...

I just took a RG with the 103 for a long ride today, and of course it was cooler than the 110, but imho the amount of heat and where you feel it is no different between the bikes.  The fairing isn't going to make your leg cooler

The fairing won't have a significant affect on engine heat.  Maybe you should consider changing the question to something along the line of "which type of fairing allows more air to reach the rider".  That will directly affect rider comfort, as in more air flow is good in hot weather, and less air flow is good in cold weather.  And no, I don't have the answer to that question.

I've had both....and don't believe the two fairing styles effect the engine heat in any way...

However, Jerry (grc) makes a good point about air on the rider. IMHO the Batwing has more options for directing air. The Shark Nose does not. However, now that I have had 2 weeks to ride my new Road Glide Ultra I will take the improved handling and overall 'bubble' of the Shark Nose over the Batwing...especially for highway riding

The only thing that might make the batwing a little cooler on the driver is the "wings" on the outer edges of the fariing and being able to direct the air flow to your body a bit with them.  I doubt that there's a dime's worth of difference in engine cooling between the two.  The biggest difference between the two (other than styling) is that one is like strapping on a 4x4 piece of plywood to the front of the bike, and the other is not.

not sure bout the engine heat between the two.  the 110" is hot on anything compared to lesser cubic inches.

i do notice a difference of hot air from the owners though.

C'mon SBB, lets add a few facts to the numbers. How many models offer the Batwing...and how many offer the Shark Nose? For a few years now H-D has offered at least 2 models with the Batwing (Ultra & Street Glide) compared to only 1 Shark Nose (Custom or Ultra). 2 against 1 ain't a fair fight. Just sayin'........

Anyone have total Batwing vs. Shark Nose sales numbers? As long as this thread's been 'jacked, might as well find out.
