According to the CNBC report, the list is based on traffic fatality statistics compiled from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Four Florida cities made the list including Fort Lauderdale which was ranked first, Orlando was ranked second, Jacksonville was 11th and St. Petersburg came in at 12th.

So why does Florida rank so badly?

Some blame the high number of New York transplants, tourists driving in unfamiliar territory and senior citizens. not to mention spring breakers, who may have compromised vision or reflexes.

I feel Houston Tx is worse than any listed.  I think Miami is worse the Lauderdale.

Salt Lake??? I drive there all the time, don't think it's that bad. I'd expect to see places like Chicago, Seattle, nothing in California?? I think the survey was put on by the La, Chicago and NY City chamber of Commerce.

I always heard it was because of all the "Blue Hair Drivers" down there... old retirees (disclaimer: I have nothing against "old retirees"... truth be known I'm probably one of them only thing is I haven't retired yet ) that were so old they looked thru the steering wheel instead of over it and probably shouldn't be driving in the first place.

Boy I'm kind of agreeing with Ft Lauderdale here, been there many times and over the years found it to be much worse that even Chicago or LA for that mater, reason being it seems nobody observes the traffic lights. Actually I found this starting about 10+ years ago and it seems to be getting worse all over the country but from what I remember Lauderdale was my first recollection of people continuing after the red was present.

Kind of curious what everyone else thinks here.

Hey Roy, a friend that just moved there from Norfolk, Va, was just on the phone complaining about the same thing.....drivers being oblivious to red lights/stop signs, etc and all having road rage.  I think it's getting worse all over, of course, high traffic areas tend to just multiply the problem drivers.  I know they bump draft on I-40 in North Caroling (cause Richard Petty got  a ticket for doing just that a few years back).  har.  spyder
