K&N Element for the SE Ventilator
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:27:38 PM »

I was not having much luck finding the K&N filter element for the SE Ventilator Air Cleaner. While at my local dealer, for the hell of it I asked if they had it. "No we don't", was the answer, till I gave them the part # (29400022). They had 3 in stock. Great! Sold!
My smiling face was soon turned to a frown since the filter element was about a 1/4 " longer than the OE paper element and the chrome cover will not properly fit over the element. How can this not fit??Has anyone else experienced this? It took a lot of self control not to grab my rubber mallet and make it fit. :smash:

It seems like there have been some folks that have had that problem with the K&N Filter

fitting right. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Mine fits perfect.

I think there was a post about it on here awhile back.

There were some posts right after the K&N filter first became available that indicated the filter was too large for the Ventilator cover.  At least one person trimmed the filter, but I'd recommend you take it back and have the dealer try another one.  It's very possible that the early examples weren't made quite right.  For around $60 MSRP, it should be right without having to modify it to fit.

My thoughts exactly Jerry. Of course, when I returned to the dealer they were out of stock. Part ordered, awaiting delivery. I'm glad I still have my sense of humor. Not that big a deal, just another MOCO test of the "love / hate relationship".
Thanks for the responses.

Well, mine didn't fit.  You don't want to force it or it will crinkle like an accordion.  Ask me how I know this...   :)  I uncrinkled it and trimmed it with a utility knife.   I bought another because you can still see the crinkles a bit, and I haven't tried it yet.  Maybe it will fit!

Weasels and I bought one each from the K&N Booth at the HD Dealership at Rapid City last week during our trip to Sturgis, both fit perfect. Bought the last two they had in stock that day, they said they were selling like hot cakes.

Heading out today for a 12 day trip to the southwest, 4 corners area. Replacement element has not arrived at the dealer, so I decided to fix the problem. Put a new blade into my carpet knife and performed some delicate "plastic" surgery on the element. Fits perfectly now. Obviously this is a result of HD's new liberal manufacturing tolerance policy for their Chinese sourced parts, +/- who cares?

I was going to order one directly from K&N's website for my 2012 SEUC.  It is showing part # HD-0910 for the replacement.  Does that sound right to you guys that have ordered one?  Thanks in advance.

HD 0910 is the number the guys at the K&N booth gave me too. Let me know if it fits.
