I have the oil dipstick with the measurement of temp and oil level. It shows me 130-140 grade Celsius, depending on the outside heat. :o :o

For me this oil temp seems to high, shouldnt it be around 110 Celsius( 230F)??

I have still the SYNC3 in it and have so far done 800 miles, so no first service done yet.

1. this dipstick is a piece of junk - don't trust it's readings: Our dealer observed several cases of them showing "half full" and actually beeing over 1,5 L low.

2. on a summer day mine shows about the same temp readings. On a 2000 km ride 3 weeks ago we had the chance to compare 3 of them: a catless header resultet in about 10 C less temp, except from that the temp readings were more or less within 5 C on all 3 bikes, max 140 C, lowest 95 C.

The normal operating temp for a H-D touring bike is between 220 to260 F. Can be lowered 20 to 30 degrees F by remaping the FI (computer). I'm not sure, but I'd guess 1.5 liters low is about half full  :nixweiss: ::)

Returning from a 250 mile ride yesterday with temps around 90 F, my LED dipstick said 237 degrees when I parked it in the garage and let it settle for a couple of minutes to check the oil level. Redline 20W50 Synthetic oil in the crankcase.

While the LED dipstick is certainly no industrial grade sensor, it's good enough for me in this application.  I used to install and calibrate industrial grade temperature sensors, FWIW.  The oil level indicator on the two different dipsticks (one on an '06, and one on the 2011) I've owned has been pretty accurate.

1.5 L is all the difference between Full and Lowest.

Thanks so far for all replies.
Just returned from a day trip to the Alps ( 350km or 220 miles). I checked the temp three times today and it never went up over 130 Celsius.

Everything ok and I really enjoyed the Greenie today, she was performing well, even in high alltitude on the Fluela-Pass, which is around 7500 ft high. :cucumber: :cucumber:
