Side covers marked up form wife's boots
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:46:47 AM »

Took my wife on a week ride around Colorado.  I noticed that her boots really marked up my side panels.  I tried my Crystal Glow on them and that did not fix them.  any ideas?
If I have to I will take them to my painter and ask him.
Also I was thinking of having the clear bra film applied to them after I get them back into shape.  Has anyone done this?

I would check into the Motorcycle Armor products.  They are a must for protecting side covers and saddlebags from the wayward boots of the BSR. :cucumber:

I would think a mild polish (Griots #3) and a random orbital buffer should take out the scuffs (as long as she didn't scuff thru the clearcoat).

Best solution: remove the cause of the scuff.

I think I will use bout your suggustions..buff it out. (No the scuff is not thru the Clearcoat) and then use the Motorcycle Armor products.  Is this the same stuff as Clear Bra for cars?
Thank you guys

Whew......I thought you were going to take his suggestion and remove the cause of the scuff.  I was going to ask if you were just going to cut her feet off or her legs? :nixweiss:

I'll look for this at the store.  That gives me an idea Mr.Clean's Magic rub sponge.  Have any of you guys tried Magic rub on paint?
I would like to know before I try it.

Are your wife's floor boards at the right height for her? I have been riding on the back for 30 years and have been accused of a lot of things but that is not one.  ;D My legs get cramped back there and I move around a lot..I don't see how she scuffs the side covers. Are you sure she did it  :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: Good Luck
I would first try the magic erase on the backside of a saddle bag that doesn't show.
I am sticking up for the BSR's...it is never our fault...just ask any of us. :bananarock:  :huepfenlol2:

I have a funny, related story:  A friend's first trip on his new Street Glide... BSR wore boots with exposed zippers running up the inside of her lower legs.  At our first stop after about 100 miles, his side covers were horribly scratched.  You can imagine he was pretty upset about his new ride.  (Yes, that one.)  When we got home a couple of days later, we used some polish and an orbital buffer from Griot's Garage.  Only took a few minutes and looked as good as new.  Everyone was relieved, to say the least.  Chit happenes.

I notied some pics here that show the floorboards adjustment vertical, hers were horizonal, I moved them to vertical today.  She has not had a chance to ride yet.

This is a simple fix, simple clay bar and detailer, maybe have her hold the sidecover while you do it (on the workbench not the bike). Should take couple minutes each.

My wifes chaps or boots scuffed my side covers. I used Harley swiral and scrach remover. I then put on snyders paint saver clear vinyl film I purchased from www.aerostich.com for $14.00 and $7.00 for shipping. You have to make a template to cut out your vinyl. This film does not have any adhesive or glue to stick on the panel so it is like a static cling. Does not come off unless you pull it off. Took me 30 minutes to make template cut and install. When it gets scuffed up I will peel of and replace. I will be puttung it in other places to protect from road debre. Way cheaper than motorcycle armor.
