Confused shade tree: exhaust lobe on cam
« on: August 17, 2011, 08:57:34 PM »

Ok. Haven't pulled rocker covers to confirm, but I "think" the inside cam lobe is the exhaust, with the pushrod going to the rocker in the interior of the V, actuating the rocker for the exhaust valve. Don't need a "vote"  ::) but would like verification or a slap up side the head w the correct answer  :orange:

Doing a full sac stage II on my '10 seug...   Pipe went on like it was made for it  ;D

Cheers

Does this help?  (pushrod closest to the cylinder goes to the intake valve)

I was mistakenly thinking the rocker arms "rocked across the head" (probably a sign of a misguided youth).  Now that I think about it, and know the answer, my original concept would be very difficult to execute on the Harley.  Of course, most things are obvious after you understand them  :P

Thanks again, back to work on the bike.  Hope to have it running this afternoon ;)  Think I'm far beyond the flat rate time, but enjoying tinkering. Picture might follow if I can figure out how to get it off the iPhone...

Any tricks to installing the pushrod tube clips???

I think you would have figured out for yourself which pushrod goes where once you actually started to install them.  It becomes sort of obvious once you are doing the installation.

There's no trick to the pushrod tube clips.  Just make sure your o'rings are in place top and bottom, and make sure the pushrod tubes are fully seated top and bottom.  Expecially the top...feel with your fingers so you know the pushrod tube is fully engaged into the head/o'ring.

I seat the top of the pushrod tube clip first by hand, then use a long handled screwdriver as a lever (against the clip) to compress the pushrod tube springs - and then push the clip forward into place.  Again, once you begin, it will become obvious.  (There is a tool made to install pushrod tube clips, but I've never used one...)

You'll be an expert by the time you have all four installed!   :2vrolijk_21:

thanks again sadunbar.  Yep, becoming an expert, well to use the term very loosely, had them tubes in and out a couple of times, at least partially.  Just need to button up the exhaust, fit new air cleaner, install TTS update etc. and I'm off again :)

Thinking of my Dad, long past, and how he once said "he couldn't give me much" ...  Wish I would have been on my game enough to tell him 1) he gave me the things I love (photography, sailing, sports cars etc) and 2) gave me the assumption that I can do anything if I just did it...  I'm not talking about the "you can do anything you set your mind too..." chatter, but coming home and finding him pulling the engine/transmission on an MG 1100 to change syncros... Amazing how many people assume they can't do something just because they haven't ;)  OK jacked my own thread.  Just wanted to tell someone - and say things before they are too late!

Cheers,

Rusty
