Is it just me?
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:38:53 PM »

Is it just me or does it seem like no one is talking much about the 2012's? If you look back at past years when the new ones came out thats all you could find on this site was talk about the new models----------not so this year , everyone is still talking about their 2011's and older including me. Either no one has the funds to get em , no one likes em , or we just like our old ones better this time. Me ----------I like my 11 far better. I love the new 2012 CVO road glide custom but not enough to buy one. Just my thoughts for the day.

We were discussing something similar on another thread a couple of weeks ago...HD is making so many models of CVOs that the uniqueness seems to have somewhat faded.

When CVOs started, HD picked two models to "CVO" and ran them for two years each.  After two years, another model was picked, and so on.  Not so anymore.  What's this, the 3rd yr. for the SESG?  How many yrs. has the MoCo offer some version of a CVO Electra Glide/Ultra?

There's only so many things they can come up with, only so many hot paint schemes.  Over the past years I've looked at some of the CVO additions and thought they were just looking to bolt on another piece of chrome.  Felt same way about some of the CVO paint schemes...nice, but didn't give me the "OH, WOW" feeling.

However, this yr (to me) the 11 SESG Rocks!...not sure about the saddle bag speakers though.

The saddle bag speakers are on the 2012 SESG not the 11's.

Still loving my '09.  What have they really done since then (for the touring bikes, anyway)?

When they're not just recycling models ad nauseum but along with that it feels you know that's what they are going to do it rather well kills the excitement of anticipation.  Unfortunately the greater anticipation anymore isn't whether the SEUC13 is going to hit the street but is instead what corner they've got next or which revision of the compensator they'll release this year.

I agree!!
There is no wish to buy a 2012 for me. Very happy with my GREENIE  :cucumber: :cucumber: :cucumber: :cucumber:

and even if there are some nice touches on the 2012 SESG, I think they are very similar to the 2011 range, but they dont have enough "glamour".

Exactly-----------I like the upgraded wattage on the stereo and the rear speaker addition but the paint really doesn't do it for me like the 2011's.  I am ok with the ghost flames but that pinstriping on the fairing and the rear fender looks like an afterthought to me and a  bad one at that.

I personally think the 12s look killer.  The Ruby Red and Hot Citrus are especially trick. That Hot Citrus in the sun is going to pop! Perhaps the reason there aren't many posts is because there aren't many folks here yet who have bought them. There are very few trickling into dealers so far.

Well you asked!!
Let me start by saying I am very biased by the Krypto sitting in my garage!
I was very apprehensive going into the HD tent at Sturgis, BUT after seeing the 2012 CVO SGs in the sun, I was able to breath a sigh of relief. The ghost flames and lighted console are killer and I wish they were on my 2011.  I was very disappointed with the half circle paint blob on the fairing and the excessive pinstripping, a more subtle fairing and fender pinstripping would look much better.  I also am not a fan of the cookie cutter accents, where is the individuality of the contrast colored engines, exhaust tips and the rims.  The saddlebag speakers, a nightmare waiting to happen and how good can the music be at 80MPH.  WTF is up with the rider backrest?  Oh it doesn't have one and you cant even add one unless you change the seat!!  WTF.  Now either HD has really thought this out thinking, "Hey these guys change all this stuff anyway" OR it is a labor/supply cost cutting cop out!  I lean toward the latter.
Again this is my opinion. If you have or are buying a 2012 CVO SG   WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, ENJOY YOUR NEW BEAUTIFUL BIKE.
One last thing  if I was to choose 1 of the 3 colors  Most Definitely RED!!!

I think the 10's & 11's were such ground breaking models that everybody who had the desire & cash purchased one! I know Harley Oz are only bringing in a handful of 12's as the demand for the model has been filled. $47k combined with pay through your arse accessories is a breaker for most.

If a person were wise with their money, they'd wait two years after thier favorite model was released and buy one gently used for substantially less the original price.  I've got a huge problem with most of the stuff
Harley is peddling these days.  Shorter shocks on "Low" models is one of them.  When I rode a friends' Yamaha Virago 250 a few weeks ago and then compare that to the 11.5" P&A stock shocks my dad's FXR4 came with it's night and day.  Both bikes are the same age so there's no reason a roughly $3,000 MSRP motorcycle should ride better than an over $20,000 MSRP CVO bike.

Harley paint, chrome, and fitment are phenomenal, but all that chrome and paint doesn't make them ride any better.  Harley is one of the only companies I can think of that offers their special edition models with zero upgrades to suspension...one of those things that really should matter to those who actually ride.  Can't wait to get the Traxxion stuff installed front and rear so I can see how that FXR4 should ride.

I thought the 2010 CVO Street Glides all stood out, I think less of the 2012. None really stand out this year to me.

Hmmm, just what I thought the other day  ;)

Maybe there is just nothing exciting about the 2012s, not technical nor by design. But let's wait until more of them hit the roads and we see them in person.
