GPS not coming through the speakers now???
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:07:19 AM »

Okay, here's the deal..

Everything was working fine. I had sound coming through the speakers muting the stereo for directions and with the flip of a switch, they would come through the headset. I used the GPS in my car for a trip and now it's back on the bike and I can't hear the NAV directions. I can hear it playing from the speaker in the back of the unit but it's not muting the radio and coming through the headset or speakers. Needless to say, I can't hear the unit while riding...

Anyone out there know what I need to do to reset it back for the bike?

Have you tried playing some MP3's in your GPS and are they coming thru the speakers? Have you checked the volume setting to see if somehow the Navigation volume got turned down? Is your GPS running on (internal GPS) battery power and not power from motorcycle? We are talking about a Zumo or Roadtech (H-D branded Zumo)?

It's the HD Zumo Road Tech. It shoukd be running on bike power because it uses the HD dash mount. Lemme go check the NAV Volume. brb

When I press on the NAV button to adjust the Volume, the radio says "internal navigation not installed"

The volume on the Zumo is at 100% and coming through the speaker on the back of the unit.

Is the battery bar showing as if it isn't plugged in the mount?

speaker switch on dash??? mine has been giving me all sorts of problems same as you describe and sounds coming out sounding like the chipmunks have taken over each time I have run firmware update and it works until the next time asked dealer about it they duplicated the problem agreed with me and then wanted me to pay 1 hour diag and leave the bike and gps with them so they could trace the problem not sure why they would need diag time paid by me when there is a corncern they agree with find it hard to believe HD would deny a claim on a system that has so many bugs.. they will eventually get the bike but it will be once the rains return

Okay I was fiddling with it for a bit. It's still not working.

It appears to see the bike because when I switch the bike on the GPS come on and when I switch the bike off, it say power lost and it's gonna shut off in 30 seconds.

The MP3s play through the speaker on the back of the unit.

Sounds like you may have the same problem as mentioned in Reply #5 above. :nixweiss:

You may want to check the pins in the mount and on your Zumo to see if there is anything there causing a connection issue. Other then that I'm at a lost.

If you figure it out, please post up!

I have the same symptom.  Can't say I've tried to figure it out either.

Rarely use it but the other day I needed it to make an appointment.  Too much traffic noise to hear it!!

Thanks.

As suggested, I took a queue tip and cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol and remounted it and it works!!  :huepfenjump3:

try your regular radio if it becomes intermitent like your zumo then flip your speaker switch back and forth if it starts working then its the radio thats causing the issue.....happened on mine   dealer replaced radio

I cleaned the contacts on both the GPS and its mount.  Isopropyl and swab.  Total funtionality now!

I've already had my xm module fail. Was hoping it was not the unit but those contacts looked great.  Sheeeesh!
