The question wasn't whether you were happy but what they could do to improve.

I still think Custom Vehicle Operations should be truly custom. As a customer we should be able to go to a dealer and sit down and do a build sheet with all our parts installed at the factory level.
It would be nice to have a loaner bike when ours is in the shop or at least a courtesy van to take us home. Maybe even a bike pickup service.
I know the above is just a dream though.

My BMW shop has several (5 or 6 at least) fast loaners and provide them on a first-come, first-serve basis.  That is soooo cool.  Plus, I've always had my minor and major service completed within 5 hours on the same day..and that's happened 32 times.

On a positive note, Fullerton H-D does have a courtesy vehicle that will pick up you or your bike within a reasonable distance, for service, but the service takes several days (mostly a week) to complete unless you go in on Saturdays.

The question wasn't whether you were happy but what they could do to improve.

Adding more nonessential gadgets isn't the answer, nor is trying to turn a motorcycle into a mobile boom box to compete with the kiddies in their little cars with trunks full of amps and huge woofers.  And creating a two tier service system isn't going to impress those of us who don't want a dealer touching our stuff anyway.  Being moved to the head of the "don't know how to fix it so it must be normal" service line isn't exactly adding value.

How about a really radical idea, like a higher performance (power, handling, braking, etc.) version, similar to the Shelby Mustang?  Enough already with the poser mentality from H-D.  And in the process of improving performance, perhaps they could figure out how to improve driveability while still meeting safety and emission standards, just like those folks from the various automotive companies do.  Then maybe it wouldn't be automatic that a customer has to spend $1k immediately just to make his brand new $35k - $40k bike run worth a chit.

Must have something to do with the importing process to the country. HD would not make multiple versions for no reason since it costs them more money.

No regulation/importing process, believe me. It's just
as simple remove some parts, add standard-parts,
then keep the price and tell the customer: new modell,
new features, but same price/value as before. But with
communities like the cvoforum, its very easy to find out,
what they changed and nothing has to do with security,
regulation and/or importing. We don't have to tell them
how to make more money  :D  :D

With all the complaints about build quality why did you buy an HD? Serious question.

I don't know your experiences - but I am treated as a premium customer at my dealership indeed: I get a demo bike whenever my bike is in for service, my bike will be serviced as soon as I appear and is dealed with by the head mech only, I really can't complain.

The only problem I sometimes have to deal with is H-D Germany sometimes acts as they know significantly less about their product as my dealer and myself  ;D

Suggested improvements? Better quality management at the factory: in 2006 they sent us an oil pump working the wrong way, in 2010 they sent us 2 (!) cranks out of spec - and that's only the most significant examples ...

I agree with your thinking about varying the models that they produce. That would sdhake things up a bit and may help the current models hold their value.

On the other hand, I don't think it was said as something we "deserve", but rather something additional unique to the CVO buyer. For ex.--the HOG memebership--anybody who buys a new bike gets a year, maybe the CVO buyer could get some additional years. Not a deserve thing, just a perk....just a thought....

MJB got the gist of my post.  I'm just looking at ways to set the CVO line apart from the norm.  I think most of you would agree that one motive of buying a CVO was to be unique and stand out a bit.  Bottom line is the MOCO's bottom line but there are ways to improve the brand and not loose money.  I like the ideas folks have  :2vrolijk_21:

From my dealer, I received a "VIP" card.  I get a loaner bike (if one is avaliable - pretty much always is), free pick-up and delivery (have yet to use that), free state inspections.  As a HOG officer, I get 15% off P&A and Motorclothes.  I also negotiated lifetime service as part of my purchase package.  That last was a good deal for me, as my 2010 SEUC has 42K on it already.

Suggest that to a dealer on Long Island and you will get laughed out of the showroom. Good job getting that!

Oh, and my service has always been same day.  They have even replaced stuff under warranty without me asking.

I can't understand why they can't replace that useless air temp gauge with an oil temp gauge and get a fuel gauge that is accurate! It amazes me that year after year they put them in there knowing they are junk and don't look to improve. :nixweiss:
