What can I use in an emergency to top off my engine oil when no Redline is available?

Any motor oil that meets the same standards, then make sure to do a full change as soon as possible.

If you use a brand of oil that is not readily available everywhere, it would be a very good idea to carry a quart (or a pint if you're tight on space) with you all the time.  Probably the best idea is to choose your motor oil based on several factors, one of which is being readily available in any areas you expect to normally visit.

Are you finding it necessary to "top off" your oil that often, or is this one of those hypothetical "what if" questions?

I use Redline 20/60 Synthetic, I have never thought about it, But if i did get caught out and needed to add oil would i need to add another synthetic oil or regular oil?
Will they mix?

Something to make you Hmmmmmmm.

Yes.  They'll mix.  Their are synthetic "blends" all over the store shelves for those looking to spend a bit less than the cost of the full synthetics (which are rarely full synthetics to begin with).  But don't trust yet another oil thread.  Straight from the horse's mouth would be a citation from Mobil speaking to the Mobil 1 product line:

"Mobil 1 is fully compatible with conventional motor oils, semi-synthetic motor oils and other synthetic motor oils, should it be necessary to mix them."

I called Redline and talked to their technical guy.  He said any synthetic will mix with Redline.  I was at a Harley dealer that only had the Syn3 available.  Redline guy said that would be okay, but Redline is a "Class 4" oil, and Syn3 is a "Class 3".  Better to stick with the same class, but I couldn't find a class listing on the bottle.  Anyway, put a quart of Syn3 in and made it home.

Not to highjack this thread but I have heard you do NOT want to mix the Redline shockproof heavy in the trans with anything else.
Does anybody know this to be true?

Why would you want to mix trans fluids anyway?  If you have a leak that requires you to top off during rides, I'd suggest it makes much more sense to fix the leak.

I guess I should be more specific...I was told that if you ever want to change to a different trans fluid after using Redline shockproof you better make sure you flush all the Redline shockproof out.
After using shockproof I will never use anything else...it was just a "is there any truth to that statement" question.
Was told that by an independent shop mechanic.  That is the only reason I ask.
