I process many warranty claims with the MOCO. never, I say never, had an issue with using aftermarket oils.
is your dealer Chesters?

Is not Chester's in Mesa (the greater Phoenix area).  That would be a good 120 miles away.  :nixweiss:

I'd still love to know how "Red" from H-D knew what brand of motor oil was in the engine.  Did he do a taste test?

I love the shock proof in the trans, much better shifting, but use mobil1 in the motor just because it's easier to find.

Funny thing he knew it wasn't Syn 3 and he was going to have it sent out for testing and my sevice writer called me and asked what oil I was using in the motor and I told him it was Redline 20/50. I guess that is when Red told Tucson Harley that the Moco may not honor my warranty and raised hell with the new Service Manager. Red finally backed off after the General Manager explained to him that I was a very loyal customer and had brought in lots off business into his dealership. That is when they decided to rebuild my motor instead of sending another motor from the Moco and suggested to me to use Syn 3 in the motor at least through my warranty period. Being that I had BLUU in the shop more than I had been riding it with all the motor issues I decided to play the game so that if the motor fails again at least I can say I followed the Moco's instructions to the tee. Like I said in my earlier post all my friends that I ride with all use Redline 20/50/60 in their motors and love it. The only problem is that they never had the motor failures I did with my 110 in BLUU. This is why I have a Love/Hate relationship with Harley. Since they have rebuilt the motor I have not had one issue with the motor and performance. 3 times a charm!!

Need to ask about one more scenario while this thread is open:  You're out in Podunk, AL when you discover an oil leak at the cooler.  You think its not bad enough to down the bike but you want to top it off to make it home.  The only store nearby has 0 W 20 syn oil or 10 W 40 dino.  Which would be the wisest to get you home?  The 'thin' syn or the 'thick' dino? (Say the temp is about 70F).

Actually he backed off because he knew he would be in a lot of trouble with HD and redline. If he put it in writing. Send the letter to redline. Not sure what they would do but I do know what Texaco would do. Texaco with go after them. I have seen it Done. If you read your owners manual. It does not say you have to use HD oil. It is a recommendation as long as it meets the specifications. I can tell you if they refuse because of red line oil just send the letter to redline stating that the will be involved in a lawsuit over there inferior oil. And you will have a new motorcycle. without a lawsuit or much of a hassle on your side.

And Mobil1 I usually find on sale at about half the price of HD syn.

I wouldn't be afraid to run any of these three:  Redline, Amsoil, Mobil 1.  All are excellent.  I do think the Redline Shockproof for the transmission can't be beat though.

Amsoil doesn't sell a 20W60 oil, so I guess it's apples and oranges.  Are you perhaps talking about their straight SAE 60 oil for motorcycles?

Anyway, without specific test results in a side-by-side comparison, I have no idea if one is significantly "better" than the other, but I seriously doubt it.  Either one should be more than sufficient for hot weather use in a Harley engine.
