Stock CVO muffler question
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:33:22 PM »

Looking up the tail pipe of my '12 SESG and an '11 SESG, the baffles look completely different. The '12 has what looks like a four piece plug in the center and the '11 looks like an open half moon. I'm just wondering if the four piece thing could be drilled out with a whole saw, like I've done in the past on a stock muffler plug?

I'm going to answer my own question. ;) Yes you can drill out the plug, and its pretty easy. Just use a 1¼" hole saw with a long shaft. There's an initial lip to get through with the hole saw, then with a little slow and steady effort, the "pinched plug" can be drilled out. On the right side, with the plug removed, you can see all the way to the cat. The only problem I had was fishing out the plug once it was drilled. But with a long magnet and some long reach needle nose pliers, I got them both out. Sounds pretty good now too. Here's a pic after...

The first one gave me a little trouble, until I backed off the centering drill.

They sound pretty good. Now I guess I'll get the Fullsac X-pipe and talk to them about the tune.

Nice work.  What do you think about performance difference if any?

It seems to run better, I hit 90 on the on ramp to the interstate. THEN I saw the cop! :o whew that was lucky!
I'm a little worried that being a lot more free flowing, with the stock tune, it might be a little lean. Opinions?

So how is the sound compared to my 2" power cores. I'm thinking as long as you don't pull the cat out you should be ok until you get your x-pipe and tts-mastertune.

Wow, you were busy last night. How long did you ponder drilling those plugs out??
Now to get Tommy boy onboard with the Fullsac treatment.

I think I still like the sound of the fullsac cores better.
I figured if I was going to change them out anyway I might as well give it a shot. And if it went bad, it would push me to get the stage 1 sooner.
