I was just in a dealer in NC that had some shirts that had Made in the USA while we were at the NC Hog Rallie. They had big tags over the price tags which is what caught my eye, may have been Smoke'n HD or the Hickory Dealership, at the conference center.

I really feel there would be a market for it with Harley customers.

I do not buy any shirts from HD anymore, a friend bought me one from a shop in Arizona ONLY because it was a made in America shirt.  I TRY HARD to buy American whenever I have a choice that is even close to being equal.  Like someone else said, I'll buy North / South America items before anything from China!!     Fox Creek Leather is my supplier of choice for leather products....

Where merchandise is produced and purchased is being directed more and more by the 401K investor and less by the consumer.

Do you invest in a 401K that you want to make less money or make more money for your retirement?

The USA (#1 exporter) still exports about 20% more goods to the world than does China.

I would like to see more generic motorcycle shirts competing with HD's shirts. HD's shirts are too pricey. Plus many of the local dealer's printing on the shirts is gawdy and done in poor taste. Sometimes less is more when designing shirt logos!

I think the shirts should be made wherever the price is most affordable and the savings passed on to the consumer. When made in China for one third of the US price and sold for the same full price as shirts that had been made in the US then I'll use the facilities but shop elsewhere.

The accessories is what trips me out. The rear jug air deflector chrome trim and dash trim come to mind but that's all I've purchased from them. Trying to find American or Canadian built motorcycle lifts now and there's only a few to choose from. AAMCO and Handy are the only two I'm finding so far.

What does a 401k mean if I don't have a job because they were all shipped over seas?  Never mind, I will go on the government dole.  That is what the politicians what anyway.

China is the #1 exporter in the world followed by Germany.  The USA is third.  The funny thing about this list, is Germany was in the #1 position until last year which was a surprise to me when I first heard that.

Btw, if anyone really believes that stock prices and thus the value of their 401k are determined by how much corporations make by screwing over the little folks, they need to get a clue.  The stock market has become just another "fixed" gambling operation, where the program traders and big hedge funds manipulate prices to their advantage.  The original purpose of Wall Street, the capitalization of business, has given way to the "life is just one big casino" philosophy.

If stock prices followed corporate profits, they would not be at the current levels.  Corporate profits have been running at historic highs for at least the past year.

Frankly......... I buy what I want no matter where it is made. The quality is what I am looking for first and foremost if I have a choice.

It is a global economy that we all are part of. Granted, the domestic economy impacts use the most, but, I am not working to spend my money on overpriced items just to say "I BOUGHT AMERICAN".

edit - I stopped buying HD dealership shirts a few years ago. When looking for a shirt, I look for the unusual rather than just a HD dealership shirt.

yeah - but let's be frank again: I reached that level too some years ago after Madame had fiercely opposed opening up a new closet just for the next 100 H-D-shirts  :D

Got this wrong. I was watching a show that mentioned this and I thought it was wrong.

The baby boomers are retiring and not looking for jobs. They are looking for the best returns on their retirement investments. Much of our economy followed the boomers from their baby needs, schooling needs, housing needs and now to their retirement needs. One concern is who will replace the large number leaving the workforce? (Currently doesn't seem like the predictions are coming true.)

Right now we complain because of the goods being made overseas. Later we'll be complaining because the persons changing adult diapers don't speak english. The next generations of Americans won't be cleaning bedpans and thus the U.S. will see the largest number of immigrants in its history.

When Chinese salaries become more than $10.00 US a day, our corporations will move the Chinese factories to Vietnam.

And thus will end another civilization. By opening our borders and making other countries richer than ourselves, they will be able to afford the move to freedom. Then a dictaror will put himself in charge of this new breed of immigrant and America as we knew it will be gone. Who knows if we'll be dead before this happens or not. Appearantly those voting for certain candidates could care less what happens to this country after they die. I mean after all, we'll just be worm dirt or ashes, why should we G.A.F. >:( >:( >:(

... America as we knew it will be gone.

America as I knew it 40 years ago is already gone for many years. The land of the free is history, the country of unlimited possibilities no longer is a promise, it's a dread today: it turned into the land of unlimited suspicion and surveillance.

You may have kept your right to own and carry weapons - but many of you lost your right to fly, to smoke wherever you like to do so, to drink in public ...  ::)

You may not like it - but today I travel more freely in Russia than in the USA. That really makes me sick :bigcry:

Unfortunately Kraut,

I have to agree with you on this one.

One saying that I have is:
The goal of terrorism is to cause people to live in fear and change behavior.  A war is made up of many battles.  We may win the battles, but we lost the war when we gave up our freedoms.

I think ol' Benjamin Franklin said it best:
Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.

Unfortunately, the "War on Terror" can never be won.  As such, our freedoms and liberties will never be restored.  I rather take the chance of another 9/11 happening then have to deal with the false sense security the TSA provides.
