New 2012 Saddlebag Speakers in 2011 FHLXSE2?
« on: August 31, 2011, 05:59:43 PM »

I am thinking about adding the new saddlebag speakers that come standard on the 2012 CVO SG to my 2011 CVO SG. I would also custom paint the speaker covers to match the new lids (clean).

However, the fitment description for the saddlebag speakers and lids say that it fits all 2006+ models (except FHLXSE2 / FHLXSE3). I can't imagine why it would not fit the CVOs, as they are standard on the 2012 FHLXSE3. I believe that you just need to run an extra connector, amp, and the speakers & lids in order to retro-fit this to the 2011. Seems easy.

Is anyone else considering this mod, or have insight into whether or not the new saddlebag speakers will work on a 2011 CVO Street Glide?

It's probably a wiring issue as they say the XM module will not fit the 2011 FLHXSE2 either--until you modify the factory wiring.

HD's fitment information can be incomplete, inaccurate, and/or contradictory.

In the case of the the saddlebag lids/speakers, the description in the P&A catalog is contradicted by the fitment matrix on the website; for example regarding CVO and non-CVO Ultras:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Genuine_Motor_Accessories/2012_GMA_Catalog/boom_harness_audio_matrix.pdf

See if you can get a hold of the installation instructions for the saddlebag lid speaker kit.  It should include the p/n for the necessary harness and instructions for connecting the harness inside the fairing; more than likely, the "no fit" is due to wiring issues inside the fairing.

And as mjb765 mentioned, don't be deterred by the "no fit" statement.

Hey Mano, not sure what you mean by a restricted part?

Many CVO parts are VIN restricted meaning that in order to purchase the part you need to prove you own that particular CVO by providing a VIN #. Sometimes they will even want the old part back before selling you the replacement. This prevents anyone from buying all the parts and building a CVO clone.

obviously as seen in the previous link, those lids are not vin restricted.

Mano, it isn't a restricted part. They sell the lids primed.

FWIW--A gal at the HD Tent in the CVO display at Sturgis told me this mod could be done--she just offered it up when I told her that I had an '11. Basically same information that has been posted here:  You'd need to buy speakers, amp, wiring harness, and have new lids painted. She listed off the prices off each (so fast that I don't remember them all), but didn't seem too crazy to me at the time. She did mention that she usually works with the Ultras though, so I don't know if she'd know about any SESG conflicts with the electronics.

retail $1895 and says does not fit FLHXSE2/3 which no doubt is a wiring issue since it would fit the 2010 FLHXSE

The installation instructions for the $1900 kit (speaker lids not included) are in this link:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J05408.pdf

You'll notice that the kit's audio harness uses the famous connector 6 that the SESG2 and 3 don't have.

Probably a simple work around on this kit as it was for XM, NIM, etc.

That's a whole lot of $!

I spent a lot less on my 8-speaker HogTunes setup and I really enjoy crystal clear sound at any speed.

I realize some may want to keep strictly to MoCo parts, but I'm very satisfied with dealing with Pez (owner of HogTunes) who has been in the business of selling and manufacturing speakers for the past 20 or so years!  Great guy and great company to do business with.

You know what I find amusing....they make a speaker kit so that your bike can look like the FLHXSE3, then tell you it doesn't fit the FLHXSE2 so that you STILL need to do the same mod to get the infamous 6B connector. Why would you buy the kit for a FLHXSE2 if you already have the lower speakers :nixweiss:
