If you can live without it being a new bike find an old FXR.  Best handling hopper to mid-range bike ever.

If you can find one... they are either far and few or the sellers think they're selling a gold mine..   :(   The closest i came was a 91 low rider, it was a twisted heap, in pieces after the frame was fixed, and seller would not take less then 4K... Some tell me i passed a good deal, but i couldn't bring myself to over anything more then 3K... Must of been worth it because he did sell it for is asking price..

Well first I would have kept the SESG you had, but that's just me!

Hello One Sharp Road King...  I did have "sellers remorse" a little...  But by way of explanation:
Look, for me the O&B SESG is just to close to BIG BLUE that is also better than I hoped for.  What I mean is the SESG is the same bike out front blocking the wind, and is also no where as near as nice a ride, with skinny seat, big wheels and low profile tyres, I decided I would just never ride it in favour of BIG BLUE..  Unless I had a much light, "All hanging out in the wind" local sport sort of bike for summer, I would rather just ride BIG BLUE all the time, it is THAT COOL...!

That is the why, of thinking about something like a Dyna or Softail, like the Fat Boy, out in the wind, lighter bike, ....... Guys, what holds in the curves better, Dyna or Softail ???   :nixweiss:  Cowboy

Howdy Cowboy,

I have had and still got my 1997 Ultra since new and love the way it handles, smooth as sitting in the living room and can ride it all day  :coolblue: rode from Canberra to Adelaide a few years back after a Hog rally, was a 2 day trip but not once was I saddle saw, just a little tired as it was in the warmer part of the season.

I was looking at a Dyna for a second bike myself, every time I saw one on the road or dealership I was there to check it out  :) after time I had a change of mind and decided to get a Fatboy. So as I type away I look over my shoulder in my living room where the beast is parked  :apple: My 2008 Fatboy (Candy Red Sunglo) and this bike is the bomb, did heaps to it and wouldn't turn back.
Only problem I found was the stock seat was like sitting on a log  ??? man did my thighs get a wipp'n. Althought the 2012's have a new seat.

Change the seat to the 2008 Springer SE seat to match the console and its so comfy  :bananarock:

I would say your on the right track but if your get a chance take one for a blast to make sure it suits your riding style. Foot boards are about 2" lower than your Ultra and I know you will scrape them in a turn. You can always put forward controls on to get a better lean angle.

I had a 2011 Inferno ordered but the wrong color turn up  >:( so I missed out and ordered a 2012 SG  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: just waiting for it to arrive but is a few months off yet.

Heres a shot of my 08 FLSTF Custom.
There wasn't a 2008 FLSTFSE available so I built my own, was going to put some custom tins on as well but decided to leave it as is.

I don't remember seeing it in the thread specifically about Man Caves.

Wow Aussie, Nice saying Hi to a Fellow Aussie !! And we have the same tastes by the look of it..

That is spooky...  Having had two Ultras (second one now is the BIG BLUE) I can relate...  What is spooky is I am looking at a 2011 they want to get rid of with the 2012's coming, and it is Scarlet Red and not far off your bike!!!  They are making me the deal of the decade, 103 stage 1 kit, three headlight kit, and engine protection bar, highway pegs, for $28 k Australian... Note to you Americans, that is a good price for here...

I like the Fat Boy look, but I could also get it in the new Switchback even cheaper, but to add the chrome and the rest and I would be over the top...  Still considering...

The other thing I could do, is searching the Internet on Friday, I found some old FLH in Panheads and Shovelheads.  A kicker with electric start, in a major Old School FLH is appealing somehow.  I am considering... Thank you for the perspectives...  I don't mind putting a wrench to them now and then, and not going a great distance from home...  Maybe a little classier way to do this for second bike?

Funny how some of you prefer the look of one or the other.  They are both OK with me, rigid or swingarm look back to the 50's.  Wheels and front end are a lot more important to me..... Right now, I can't pick the perfect bike, that is why I am taking in your feedback...

Thanks for all your considered answers...   Cowboy

Ok Grizzly ol mate,
Haven't got many shots of the man cave but here's one I found of where me bike is parked looking into the house side.

Silver border tiles seperate car space to bike park, didn't like the concrete floor so decided to give these tiles a go and they are just great.

Thats one hell of a deal, 28k you can't go wrong, with the 103 kit does that come with a cam, tuner of course, aircleaner and pipes.
Will be better than the stock 103's at a bargan price to.

Keep me posted on that one my bro in Adelaide is looking for a Fatboy Lo, denim black prefurably but will take a silver.
Has your dealer got either one denim black or silver?

Aussie, you Dinky Di you,

No, this is just the basic upgrade to a 103, the 2011 Fat Boy is only a 96....
I would have to go to Stage 3, to get the works... And if I go the Fat Boy, that is a possibility.   I am still thinking of whether I go to an antique or not with an old FLH Pan or Shovel..

I will keep my eyes open for FB Lo.....      Cheers, Cowboy.

X2 for the '06 SE Fat Boy...for a hopper, it's a cool bike.  Beautiful paint, CVO'd, older type 103" engine.  It might be hard to find down there though.

An FXR would be a great middle ground...I've never ridden one, but have always been told they handle great.

But, if you really want to get a rush, find an '06 SEVROD.  REALLY fun bike.  And wicked pretty.

Alright Guys,

You know I am Old School... And one of the things I really miss is a kick start.  Also, I already have the very best that HD makes, and to just go buy the same thing in a Fat Boy with the same platforms, just no fairing a bags, just to get out in the wind?  What is so special about that...  :nixweiss:  It is just money, hardly seems worth the effort, like just riding BIG BLUE, but with no fairing????

What about this, a 30 year old Classic, Old School FLH.  Fun to tinker on...  Hard chromed engine side case, chain guard, tranny end case, brake drum, front caliper, rocker covers, primary cover, full inner primary, shift linkage and mounts, brake mounts, just about everything practical old style hard chrome plated and acorn nuts.  A real old school tractor and as a 1982 Shovel, this might be the LAST Shovel, both kicker and electric start 1340 cc.  I know it will be a tractor to ride, that will be the fun, and make me happy to park it up and go back to BIG BLUE...  Tell me what you think of an old antique like this:

Nice looking bike...
Definitely has the Old School look, but a modern rider, what a treat..

We do not get that model here in Australia.  Closest thing we get is the "Blackline" but no more Springer front ends...

Nice look...  All the best from Oz, Cowboy
