Rineharts in California
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:58:12 AM »

The Ultra I just bought is an '07 with Rinehart true duels installed.  Does anyone have these pipes in California and am I going to get hassled over having them?  I need to know whether or not these must be changed out to a legal brand.

BTW: They sound kickass and I've noticed people do not ride my arse.  That makes me think twice about wanting to change them out.  But , the legal issues are in the back of my mind.

So far the cops I've come across have ignored them.  But also, I make it a point not to rub their noses in it by being subtle on the throttle...if that's even possible . 8)

Therein lies your answer.

Easy on the throttle in town. I know you hate the lose the sound. Some mufflers have the EPA letters stamped in them. Not sure about your RH's. Might be worth a look or some studying.

Being a retired motor officer.  I'd say if you don't act crazy you won't have a problem.

It's been awhile but three years ago, we had two CHP motor cops in our Auburn riding group, one had Screaming Eagle slip ons on his Road King the other with Kerker Dual Suppermegs. I would have to agree with Glen, ride like an idiot and you're prime bait for the ticket writers.

RH's do not have the EPA stamping on the can. Why do you think fullsac baffles are saleing so well (besides working) is you retain your stock can with the EPA numbers. The poeples republic of California are going to check to see if your bike has the stamped number to pass the new smog bike laws

California bike smog check bill failed. :2vrolijk_21:   We don't have bike safety checks, either.  But I believe some states do.

So far we are good,, BUT,, rumor has it that Brown is not a motorcycle fan and especially not one for Harley's. I have my fingers crossed that he doesn't see any ill effected bills coming across his desk that will turn our luck around    :'(

LOL, California worried about HD pipes? Lived there for 25 years and never saw any issues except with guys running unbaffled straight pipes wide open in neighborhoods or around schools.  Just drop in on the Rock Store any weekend and take a look at the 400-500 bikes there. You will be hard pressed to find a single stock exhaust. Even the sport bike guys out there run aftermarket exhausts. And there will be at least 10-12 off-duty law officers with their hot rod Harleys as well.
