Stock Throttle Lock
« on: September 02, 2011, 03:09:05 PM »

Just thought this would be an interestic topic for a poll.  Awe shucks!  I should've put in the choice "Uh...my bike has a what?" for those that may have never noticed it or don't know what one is.

I have cruise now, but used the lock screw on my '90, 95 and '96 bikes. My '02 SE Road King had cruise as does my '10 SESG.

I used it on my '06 SEVROD, just to rest my hand for a moment.

I used them all the time on my carbureted bikes to hold the engine at a fast idle after a cold start while I donned my jacket, gloves, and helmet.  Never really used it to hold speed while riding though.

Used it a lot on my recently departed Vrod.  But not so tight I couldn't throttle down if needed.  Seemed like it shouldn't have been designed for a "tight" setting since that did strike me as death-wish.

I do use mine but in a manner just to lessen the amount of throttle close tension.  When I let go of the throttle, it closes but a slight amount of tightness on the throttle lock helps relieve cramps in my hand.  I don't think I would ever use it as a cruise control where it holds the throttle open without my assistance.

It's not a cruise control...just something so you can rest your hand for a few seconds.

I had one of these on my Stratoliner:  http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/productinfo.html    This product really does work as advertised and is a precision made piece.  Much safer than anything else I've seen to lock the throttle.  I used it as a "cruise control" when I could...easy to engage, and the cam on the brake lever works like a charm.  Just touch it and it will release, much like an electronic control.
