Speedo and odometer - How accurate is yours
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:41:43 PM »

I've long suspected that the speedometer on my 09 SERG was off. When comparing the speed on the speedo to my GPS there is a difference of about 8 km, bike shows I'm going faster than the GPS. This past weekend I was riding with a buddy, we both filled up at the same time and rode together to the next gas station. My bike displayed that I had gone 240 km his bike 221 km. Anyone else discovered this?

Exactly the same experience. Two identical bikes side by side and GPS are NEVER the same.

Same on the od. Speedo is very close too. Speedo 75 = GPS 72/73 over a distance.

Gliding along in 6th gear, my speedo read 121 mph and my Garmin read (recorded) 118 mph, and my tach read 4300 rpm's (+-), and that was it ....

I had to take my bike in for service today for an unrelated problem. I mentioned the discrepancy between the GPS and speedo and the service girl wasn't surprised. She said they had no way to calibrate the speedo. Suggested I either learn to live with it (after two years I guess I already have) or I could buy a new one.

Buy a new one? A new speedo, or a new BIKE?  :inquisitive:

HAHA that's what I asked the service girl. She meant speedo, but if could convince the wife the only way to get an accurate speedo was to buy a new bike I might try that.
