I have been to Glacier National Park two times on the bike and once in my truck.  Evertime I stay this place.  www.northfortyresort.com/   The cabins are pretty standard, clean, private and just a little more expensive than a local hotel but way cheaper than one of the lodges in the park.  It is about 15 minutes to the main park entrance outside of Columbia Falls.  Has a full kitchen and BBQ off of the deck.

I always stay here....trust me, I am a Montana Boy.

Wow, I knew it was a popular place, but didn't know you had to make reservations a full year in advance.Glad I put this out there for you guys n gals to help me along the way.
Will prob be making reservations next week, once I verify my vacation days.

Thanks again for all your input.

Big Dave

I believe most National Parks you have to make reservations at least a year in advance.......I know the Awhanhee Lodge in Yosemite is at least a year in advance.

As for staying in the redwoods.....if you want to be right on Avenue of the Giants, sleeping in a cabin right under the redwoods (and a great breakfast restaurant directly across the street) is Miranda Gardens....rated #1 on Trip Advisor and #1 in my 40 years of experience of staying in the area.

For Yellowstone, the place that Chris mentioned, Mammoth Hot Springs, is nice.  Also Old Faithful Inn......if you don't stay there, you at least want to go inside and see it, when you stop to see Old Faithful.....it's across the other side of the parking lot.

Last year we stayed here  http://www.glacierparkinc.com/glacier_park_lodge.php not cheap but if you want to experience the history it is great.

Yup, we stayed there last year too - excellent, though as you say, not cheap!
