Yea Hub, we saw a bunch of Hollers, man...I'd still like to come up to West "By God" Virginia though and see ya'lls version of the same. Been to Virginia, Kentucky, Tenn, NC, SC...all around WV, but never been there.  Understand there's some good stream fishin' up there. We got Hollers in AlaDamnBama too!!!  Some good 'uns. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I 'hereed 'dat!  SHRADER can tell you all about the fishin'!  I think he holds several State records!  Buys 'em special High Dollar rods & reels. He's into it, Man!  Ain't got time to fish, myself, too busy workin' and Racin'!  Some day I will, though.  Later--HUBBARD

That's why I said "specifically the southeast coast". It's a "southern" thang. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

I thought " holler " was what some folks on the site do at the moderators when they don't like one of my posts  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

OK...for the benefit of all you who didn't have the privilege of being born SOUTHERN: Holler, as Hub was using the word is a noun...a small valley or depression in the land.  It's also a verb, an adjective, etc.

For example: I tried HOLLERIN' for Bubba across that HOLLER down in the woods over yonder, but he didn't HOLLER back.

Also used as an adjective: There's a big 'ol hive of bees over in that big HOLLER tree over yonder across the HOLLER....

Whoopin' and Hollerin' is what some southern boys do when they've had a few too many Buds while ridin' around in their trucks on Saturday night.  And, you might do some sure'nuff hollerin' if you were to see a Hooter's girl after said Budweisers.

So now that you've all been educated on the proper use of that particular southern expression, you'll all know how to use the word properly in MV...you're also likely to hear the following in that neck of the woods: bar (bear);tar (tire); stirrin' wheel (steering wheel)...just to name a few.

Whew!!  Educatin' you yankees is hard work!   [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] ;D ;D ;)

I get it, maybe it's hollow, not holler  :) As in Hickory Hollow and all that Ichabod Crane legend stuff ? [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] Still like hooters over hollers.

TC,
Great job of defining our southern lingo for those not from our neck of the woods.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Whoopin' ..... not to be confused with Whuppin' which is the beating you get when Bubba catches you with the local Hooters girl that's his daughter!  :o [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Then why is it called "a can of whoop a$$?"  Anyone got the Lewis Grizzard dictionary handy?
Here's a generic Southern Slang dictionary until I can find one from the man!

That's because it's portable and can be carried "up north" and opened when needed. "Down South" it can be found anywhere  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I just happen to have an actual can of it at the house for emergency purposes... will try to get a photo of it to post.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
