Kuryakan Tour Trunk Roll Bag
« on: June 13, 2006, 05:54:55 PM »

Has anyone tried the Kuryakan bag, part number 4142 on their web site?  The dimensions are 19" wide, 12" deep, 10" high.  Our racks are approx 15" wide x 12" deep, so it looks like it would fit well, hanging over the edges about 2 inches each side.  There looks to be numerous ways to attach it, and it's a rigid bag, so it wouldn't touch the leather tour pak.  I know some folks have tried the 4144 Classic Tour Bag with mixed success, but looks like this other one would fit well, and hold plenty....rainsuits...items you need to keep handy.

Hi TCnBham,
I found this thread on the For Sale section here and you may want to send a message to DakotaZeb about his?

I just purchased a brand new Kuryakyn Trunk Roll Bag model 4142.  Really nice bag, but the wife says it's too small for both of us on our upcoming trip so I am offering it for sale.  Like I said it is brand new and comes in original box.  I only unpacked it to try it on my bike.

Here's the link to the Kuryakyn web site for info on the bag:

http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3076

Retail is $139.99.  I'd like $100 plus $10 for shipping.

PM or email me at:  gteberle@abe.midco.net

I have it and I now think it looks good.  I struggled trying to attach it with all the 'random stuff' it comes with.  What I eventually ended up doing is using the two smaller Velcro strips through the front D-rings to hold it in place side to side and then got two black 24" bungy cords which wrap over it front to back and hold it on.  To open the bag, pull the bungy's to the sides and it opens fine...

Thanks VA....and Big Al, I know you're particular about how things look on your scooter, so if you say it looks good, I know it must. Think I'll PM Dakota and see if he's still got it!!  Looks like a well made, and easy access bag.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The kuryakyn bag looks good.  I have the Cortech sport tail bag ( see attached ) in black. Smaller but expandable, easily portable too!

Sorry, still trying to get used to using attachment info.  Website: www.tourmaster.com.
The bag is 8.5"Hx15"Wx13"L ( each side expands 2 inches for total width 19" and capacity of 18L). Price is $59.99 if interested.

The bag is nice.  I like the quick access (velcro) lid.  Agree with others about the attachment straps.  Took a while to come up with the right combination (wrapping the straps around the rack).  Could be a cleaner set up but once it is done, it looks ok.

Well, I screwed around this AM and let somebody beat me out on e-bay for Dakota's...work gets in the way sometimes with the CVO/OCD  ;D

So, guess I'll be ordering one...I've got a couple of buddies who own a leather shop here in town, and they could attach some leather straps to it...I'll see how it sets up when I get mine.  As long as things aren't flappin' around, I'm mostly concerned with it just staying in one place and maintaining what appears to be easy access.  It looks good too, at least from the pic.... My only caution is to watch the weight on the tour pac.  I had the under pac bars break in two and it was due to the weight I had on top.  That was with my 2003 Ultra and maybe they have strenghtened it -- I don't know.  But the rating on the pac was not a lot in 2003. (anyone know if it is improved)Considering what you might have in the pac and then what is on top in a bag there is a limit.

Rule of thumb is not to go over a Max of 10lbs on the tour pack top! I usually just put rain gear and gloves and the bike cover on the tourpak rack. that frees up some room in the saddle bags.

I got the Kuraykyn bag....nice bag, and plenty big.  I'm able to get two sets of rain gear in the lid...the rest will just be used for a cover, and a couple of things I might need to get to easily.  Thanks for the tip on the 10 lb limit...I'll keep that in mind for sure.  I'll test it out this coming weekend, as we're headed up to the Sylva, NC (very near MV) for 3 night/4 days.

Big Al had the roll bag and it looked good and was functional the way he attached it as described above.

Seemed like a good set up to me.
